I have been working out almost my whole life. I am 29.the thing that sucks is that about 3-4 years ago I stopped. I would go once in a blue moon. So I started partying a bit to much, did not work out like I should and now go figure I have gained weight. Very frustrating. I know once I get back into once I figure how to get myself motivated and I can lose the weight that I want and get back into shap pretty quickly. I am a skydiver and now that I have gained weight I my rig is too tight. So I have not been jumping or very social. HELP!!! I need advice on how to get myself back into and get my motivation back. Yikes!!!

I am a "post-transition" lifter. I don't think I could stop if I wanted to. Once you get to a certain point, you won't need to motivate yourself to do it, but to take time off.

I used to keep a jar by my bed while I was training for wrestling. Every out of season match, every weightlifting session, every extra practice, run, or training session, I would put a jelly bean in the jar. Every time I dedicated myself to achieving my goals, I put a jelly bean in the jar. I watched that jar every day, and I can't think of a time when I saw that jar that I didn't want to do something extra.

Somehow I think placing a soy nut in a jar for each accomplishment would hardly be enough to keep me motivated...however...not sure a jar of jelly beans would remain unscathed:laugh:. Maybe something inedible would be wise in my case. Lucky for me, I'm pretty self motivated.

Back to the subject at hand though...skydive7, I think once you get a routine going you will find you too, are pretty self motivated. You've done this in the past, you just need to get hooked again. Set yourself some goals and stick to them for the next 2weeks... 4 weeks...then 8 weeks...then 12week....you get the picture. I'd start watching some skydiving as well to push you for a reason to get back to it.

Now get your hand out of that cookie jar and get to the gym:big_smile:

I gotta agree with fly, it sounds like your typically a self motivated person. I'm sure you'll find once you get the ball rolling again you'll do just fine. Pick up where you left off and you'll be back in shape in no time and your confidence restored. Best of luck to you!!!

I agree with mysticg, every morning i look mself in the mirror, if you dont like what you see...GET UP and do something..but also, that my not be enough, i read a lot about exercise info here at FT or google, and that somehow motivates me to go staright to the gym after work, and after 3 weeks i am addicted already, i am truly miserable if i miss a session. Visit this site all the time and read other people issues and get answers..you will be an addict too.
