I have been taking protein shakes for some time now, but as this semester of school just started my schedule makes it hard on my off days.

I have class from 8-4 straight through with only 10-15 minutes between classes.

As you might be able to tell this makes it hard to hit my nutrition goals. My question is whether or not I can mix my protein shake before school and then drink it around 11 without it going bad. I know that creatine goes bad sitting in water but didn't know about protein powder.

Your shake should be fine for a few hours at room temperature and for days in the fridge. It should be ok till 11.

You can also carry the powder in a baggie and mix it any time with a bottle of water.

terminator, i've heard of people mixing up a shake to keep in the fridge, then drinking it when/if they wake up in the middle of the night. is this not a good idea because of the peptide bonds and what not?

I think it would be ok, protein don't break down that easly I don't think. Plus the fridge helps keep things like that from breaking down so quickly or going "bad"

Milk stays fine in fridge..... since whey is a product of milk I think it would be ok to be mised with milk and left a few hours or so ,maybe even a day.

References...

I have never heard of this. I would like to see maybe jssm references, or any for that matter. Refrigerating your shake should be fine.

I would personally mix the powder as required as I understand that the amino acids in protein are linked together to form peptide bonds. These chains of aminos also known as a polypeptides can begin to break down after a while in syntheticly produced proteins such as powder when mixed with water some would say this can be as soon as 30 mins after mixing. naturaly occuring aminos however are fine untill ingested these are found in the liquid readymixed protein shakes that you can buy and of course food.
