Hi I have just started doing weights wiv dumbells for 1 week. And I just work on the biceps and sometimes the triceps. I do these for biceps:

Hammer Curls : 2 sets of 15
21's : 4 sets of 21 (WHICH KILL)
Incline Dumbell curl: 8,10,12

I dont know how often to do these. I did it twice in a week and my arms were killing me really badly. So I dunno if I shld push myself to get bigger gains or if I might be overtraining my arms.

What can I do...and how many times a week can I work out? Note that I just started.

Thanx

why are you only training your arms.......mainly biceps?

You may get a lil bit bigger arms, but for the most part they won't grow much, because......

You have to train the whole body, because it has its on built in contractor. It won't add anymore muscle if it will make the body out of portion or weak in an area of the body.

So if you want big guns.....better start squating, benching, deadlifting, rowing etc.

For the most part the body only need to be trained....4 times a week. Not arms 4 times a a week but legs one day, back the other, chest the other , shoulders another day. And pick arms to go on one of those days.....or split them....like this....

day 1 chest, biceps
2 back, abbs
3 off
4 legs
5 shoulders, triceps

Thanks for the reply. The reason I'm only training my arms are because of height. I am 5'8 and I'm 16. I'm sure I'm gnna grow more even if a little bit. So when I go to work on the shoulders and chest I've heard that, this type of training stunts growth. So i figured that I can only work on arms as I want nice muscular vieny arms. So I have to work out the entire body or entire upper body? Is it really necessary to work out on my legs?

Thanks alot:big_smile:

thats an old wise tale, working out doesn't stunt your growth....get soemone to shwo you proper technique.....I started working out at 15........an di'm fine. height is genetic from your mom and dad. If your dads not over 6ft tall......then your prolly not gonna grow much taller.

I'm still shorter than my dad. He's 5'11. And another thing is that my forearms are killing me after the 21's. Why is this? And what to do now?

Thanks

Your mom genes come into play too......if shes like 5'2 5'3 then you may be a lil shoter than pop.

Either way working out DOES NOT STUNT GROWTH! I'm almost 6'1" which is about my dads height.....and I been working out since I was 15.....no probs here.

Gatormade, hes a strength coach for florda( you can find him in the strength training forum) he's 6'2" and he's being lifting since 14!( I think if I member correctly)

IF this is true, then you need to stop working out now, cause your gonna stunt the growth of your arms. And when your 6'4 you'll have the same arm length.

Get you a workout off of here, and use it. It a good thing it gives: reps/ sets etc.....and if you need it food intake.

btw......arms are 60% triceps.......
