i eat a LOT of oatmeal. i have it every morning for breakfast, and i usually mix some with one scoop of my protein powder and some skim milk and bring it with me to work for a snack, and i also add it to my post workout shake in the afternoon. am i going overboard? it's so cheap and one of the few places where i get many carbs, and i don't mind eating it every day. are there any down sides to oatmeal?

You are going overboard if it exceeds your desired calorie intake if trying to lose fat. Just because something is good for you, does not mean you can eat unlimited amounts.

I'd only add that the PWO shake you have, should not contain the oats, unless it is a secodary PWO shake a little later, and is being used as a PWO meal for whatever reason. Directly PWO, you don't need something slowing absorption.

good point, i didn't think about the absorption factor. it sounds like i'll be ok if i limit my oatmeal to just breakfast and for a snack at work. thanks for the input.

It is the insulin factor you are after post workout. Oats will not produce any insulin output to speak of.

As bb1 pointed out, directly PWO, have your shake with some simple sugars.
