I like to have a protien drink (purchased at a "Jugo Juice" at my gym) immediately following my workout. The nutritional breakdown is 20g carbs, 2g fat and 22g premium whey protien and is 190 calories. It is mixed with ice, rasberries and cranberry juice + sweetener (could get honey instead). Is this a reasonable nutritional post workout protien drink? It's really yummy and rather convenient!! I could ask for extra protien, so I was just wondering if the 22g is enough?
I typically head back to work after this and have my lunch--chicken or tuna plus veggies and good carbs. Does all this seem nutritionally sound after a 1hr wt training workout? Also, is it OK to have the same after a cardio only session?
Just want to make sure I'm making wise nutritional choices. I still find it hard to keep my calories, especially protien, up to the recommended 1800/day (at least when I'm eating clean :)

It all depends on your goal and your daily protein requirement.
From here it looks ok, but if you need more Protien and are having a hard time meeting your daily requirement, go for another scoop or 1/2.
My shake sometimes goes as high as 60grams. Also depends on the intensity.
Hope I've helped.

flyonthewall...usually when you have your shake...it's considered a meal/snack...so if you have 6 meals a day for example and you need 150 grams of protein...so then you simply divide 150/6 to get your per meal requirement...25g....the sugar is good because you need fast digesting carbs...however I think you need more carbs...you need about double simple carbs along with your protein...so 50 in my example....
the drink sounds delicious tho...:)

Your post workout drink depends on how much you "earned" it if that makes sense. The pwo scenario of simple sugars/protein is tested and true, but it needs to be tapered to your needs. If you work out like a bodybuilder, not much talk and push heavy weights, etc., then your needs are going to be greater. If on the other hand you are a casual trainer, socialize a bit, don't really push things to the limit, your needs will not be as great, and taking in more is probably unecessary calories. A protein drink is essential, and never go without "eating" for longer than 3 waking hours if possible, but guage your needs in the "sugar" department. Hope that makes sense. :)

Thanks for the feedback guys! I'm glad to hear that my protien shake is nutritionally sound, because it is so yummy and convenient!! I'm happy to report to BB1, that I do work out hard for the full hour, so my protien is well deserved. Since I go back to work after and have my lunch, I'm still getting extra protien there, just a bit later, but within 45min or so. I'm going to track my protien intake over the next week or so and if I'm still short I'll request an extra shot of whey protien in my drink (not sure it'll still go throught the straw though LOL :)
Menace...also good advice, I think I'll switch from the artificial sweetner to honey, that should boot up the carbs a bit.
Thanks to the advice here, I am now eating 6 meals per day (3 main, 3 snacks), so I'm not hungry anymore, but it is still hard to get up to the rec. 1800 cal, without pushing up the fat. Will keep trying though.
Thanks again...always helpfull advice here!!:)
