I hear alot about how much water we should drink in one day. How much does our body need a day..and is it based on how active you are. I currently work out about 5 times a week. How much should I be drinking?

No less than a gallon of water a day. Someone here on these message boards (I forgot who) said that it's good to drink one ounce of water for every lb. of body weight. For example if you weigh 150 lbs, drink 150 ounces of water. I think this is a great way to look at it.

I am all for drinking water....but 1 ounce per lb is too much...I would need to drink close to 2 gallons a day to fulfill that assertion....that's pretty unreasonable....unless you train in the dessert...or live in Nevada and train for an hour in the 100degree weather...there's no need for that amount...

I think 0.5-1 gallon a day should suffice most people....granted if you're a marathon runner....your needs will be considerably different...but for most individuals that seems to be a fairly good range....

insufficient hydration will cause a variety of sideeffects that will prevent you from training or make you considerably weaker and in that sense will prevent you from building muscle ...

It actually is one ounce for every Kg of body weight. Take your body weight and divide it by 2.2. So if you weigh 150 lbs. you need to drink at least 68.2 oz. of water... I personally drink 2-3 gallons of water daily, but I don't drink anything that is carbonated, high in sugar, or high in caffine. Water is my best choice.
