I have a problem. I have been losing weight by doing cardio, generally on low (mostly) to medium (rarely) resistance. i've successfully lost a significant amount of my excess weight in a relatively short period of time. my major problem: my thighs. no matter what i do (lots of cardio, lifting light weights with lots of reps, etc.), they won't get slimmer! my doctor stated that i had "tight quads" which i'm guessing means i need to stretch more? no idea. i didn't know what he meant, so i just nodded. one of my knees hurts a LOT when i (try to) do squats. to wrap things up, what can i do to effectively and quickly shape my thighs? also, buns and hips need some work as well. HELP!!!:(

First I would try and take care of your tight quads. A simple stretch is to stand on one foot and hold the opposite foot with your hand behind your butt until you feel a good stretch in your quads. Keep your knees in line with each other when you're doing this. Having an inbalance in your quads (front of thigh) and hamstrings (back of upper leg) will definetely cause you knees to be sore when squating etc.
As far as shaping legs, buns and hips you can't beat squats and lunges. Look around this site and you'll find more info on modifying squats and lunges so you won't hurt your knees. It may be "thumbtacked" in the injury message board.
Main thing to remember is there is no way to "quickly shape thighs, buns and hips" It takes time, effort and good nutrition.
Good luck and welcome to FT.
-------------- Even if you are on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there.

Are you using wide enough stance? are you sitting BACK then DOWN instead of just down when squatting? sitting back should place most of the tension on the big muscles(glutes, hamstrings, lower back, hips) and away from your quads and knees....
Have you tried DEADLIFTs? it's a great exercise for getting great thighs and getting in shape in general....it's a very demanding exercise...as squats....and produces great results...
