In the am, after my morning jog I love to have a smoothie. I have broken all of my calories, carbs, etc.......down into 6 small meals.
I thought I had my smoothie figured out. I've been doing this for MONTHS.
Um..........it was all fine except I never ever calculated the flax in.
I measure out 4 Tbsp, then grind it.......and put it all in there. I love the taste, texture, etc........
Well, I just read that 3 Tbsp flax is 160 cal, 11g fat, 29 carb 5 pro 5 fiber. That is only for 3 Tbsp. Since it grows when it's ground and doubles in size.........I have been having about 8 Tbsp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Duh! Could that explain my weight loss plateau? Ugh.
I am sooooooooooooooooooooo bummed! What a moron.
Who forgets to add in the flax? Dummy!!!! Grrrr
I'm sad now :(

let us not be hasty here. The nutritional breakdown for the flax seed, is it for ground flax seed or for whole flax seed? If it is for whole flax seed, grinding it up does not double the nutrients. It just changes the form. It may lessen the nutrients due to oxidation and heat (from friction in the grinding process destroying some of the more delicate omegas, etc.) So I would suggest first finding out the form that the nutritional count is based on and go from there. If it is based on whole, I would suggest dividing the counts by 3, then multiplying by 4 to get the correct values. If it is based on ground flax, once again divide by 3 and multiply by the amount you add.

Just my opinion

yep, it was for ground.
I measure out 4 TBSP whole, put it in the grinder and it becomes 8 TBSP ground when I am done.
I believe that is way too much, huh? It's a bummer.........but I can start fresh tomorrow.
I had no idea those little seeds had such nutritional value :)

I was doing the same thing with flax seed! I was consuming two tablespoons twice a day (already ground) to equal 10 extra grams of fat! I've since limited my flax seed consumption and, after a week, I already see the difference. I know flax seed is good fat but I still had to incorperate it into my daily fat allowance.
