There's no hyperextentions bench at my gym, so I'm having to resort to using a machine. I don't know the name of the machine, but you sit down with your feet extented towards the ground at an angle and your knees locked. You then bend backwards against a pad that's shoulder height.

Is this an equivalent exercise? I feel like it's too easy. I can do 140 pounds or so without a problem. I'm not sure about the proper form. How straigt is your back supposed to be?

yes that is an equivalent exercise..

Sit in machine with back against padded lever. Push hips back against back of seat by pushing feet against platform. Arch back in "C" shape.

Extend spine until hyperextended. Return and repeat.

To avoid hip movement, push hips back into seat by pushing feet into platform throughout exercise. Position foot platform so a small space remains between edge of seat and back of lower thigh. Use seat belt if it becomes difficult to stabilize hips.

Thanks for the detailed description bropie. About the "C" shape arch, does this basically mean you lean your head/shoulders slightly forward?

I think it means to arch your back backwards not forward.
