I have a hypothyroid and I need to lose weight. It's harder for me to lose weight because of my hormone imbalance. Any suggestions?

I won't bore you much with the symptoms associated with hypothyroid, such as problems losing weight, cold hands/feet, exhaustion, etc. I am sure you already know this. I don't know if you are taking a thyroid hormone pill like Levothyroxine which is close to a replacement for T4. If it is not that bad, there are some natural things that you can do that may well help. As you probably know also, thyroid hormone are the main regulators of cellular oxygen utilization, this can cause the above symptoms. You may want to try the amino acid L-tyrosine and L-carnitine, along with iodine(150 mcg. per day). Some minerals will help, selenium, chromium, and zinc, and a good multiple plus minerals should supply this. Hope this helps. If you are taking Levothyroxine, you may want to check out this site and do some reading. Interesting alternative. http//www.mercola.com/article/hypothyroid/treatment.htm

I too am taking levothyroxine sodium for hu\ypothyroid problem and as long as you take the pills I dont think that you will have any problem dealing with weight ...I think you should forget taking something besides the medicine recommended by your doctor and pay more attention exercising .. if you are in the beginning of the treatment you will get tired quickly when you exercise but you will soon get over that. There was a period 3 years ago when the problem appeared that I gained weight and with the proper treatment and exercise as cbas1 I am in a lot better shape than most of the people I know

I too have a hypothyroid. If you are on meds take them and exersize. I have droped over twenty pounds and several inches on my waist since coming here. Don't be tempted to take extra meds to drop weight. It will do more harm than good. Look up the symtoms of hyperthyroidismb they're much worse than weight gain.

Lots of people (and especially women) have experienced problems with the thyroid. It can be due to many things like weight problems but also because of mental probs like stress or anxiety.
Me too, I've had hypothyroidsm. Yes, I put on some weight at first simply because I didn't understand, but I managed to get my problem under control by training and diet. I even know about some other fitness competitors with hypo, and if they can succeed, well then so can we!
