i just got on my new bosy fat scales and nearly cried when they said 18.3% body fat. The stupid things is that im sure i aint even 15% let alone 18%. If i tense my stomach muscle up you can see 4 of my 6 abs surely if i was 18% i wouldnt be able too see them at all ?

Keep in mind there are differnt ways to measure body fat... calipers may say one thing and a scale may say another... I've had three different measurement types in the last month or so, and they vary by up to four or five percent...
Whichever method you use, stick with it for consistency...

how much body fat % do you have to be at in order for your abs to start showing? I'm at 15.2% and I think I can see the top 2 of my abs under the light but I'm not sure if that's what it is lol.

they say in adverts about the tanita scales which i have are within 1% accurate but that's all rubbish what they are is 99% consistent if you keep using this scale...
i am on 20% body fat right now and have watched this come down gradually from 28%- it's accurate as a constant!
as you are not happy with this, and as you can see your 4 abs then assume you are say 15% roughly(?) then add an inch to your height detail so that the machine adjusts it's reading accordingly. I mean like everytime input yourself as an inch taller and record the answer you feel is more true. but again be consistent with your method.
they all say abs show between 12 and 15% depending on who you ask! But that's also dependant on your own personal body type etc.. and anyway body fat percentage is only ever an estimate as you cannot afford the 'real' medical equipment stuff that is accurate. go with the flow and be happy watching the numbers improve- safe in the knowledge that they are consistent but happy it's not accurate..

theres is somthing called intercellar fat. Thats is fat in muscle tissue, inbetween the fibers.
Also fat can be stored around your organs, visceral fat I think, thi sis the most dangerous.
So you can have low subcautious fat(sp. just under the skin) but have visceral or intercellar fat!
