David - try some of the shocking techniques. Get as much stretch as you can at the bottom and really emphasize the stretch at the top of the moves. You can go a little lighter on flyes and get a super stretch. I don't get much in the way of DOMS by just doing the basic compound moves but the stretching movements can help you break it up.

David I was the same way. I might fell a little something for a little while but nothing major. So I looked at how i did the bench press and other chest exercises. i found that I was arching my back too much to lift the weight (it iwas too heavy). So I took off some weight and made sure that I kept my back flat. That was setp one. Step two was to lower the rep speed. I count to 2-3 on the way up and down. I also made sure to keep the best form that I could. Yes I lost some weight off the lift, but after a month i was back to the level i was at before, only now I felt very sore. In fact my wife makes it a game to try and poke my chest after chest day cause she knows it is sore. Step three was to do a differnt chest fly. I still do my fav incline dumbell. But the main one is seated machine incline flys. I really squezze it at the end and let the machine strecth it out. Hope this helps!

Soreness is caused by lactic acid buildup in the area. Soreness does not correspond to effectiveness in a workout. 7707mutts form pointers are good. But lack of soreness by itself does not mean that your workout is ineffective.

No connie, your thinking of STIFFNESS which is different from SORENESS. you get stiff muscles when you have a lactic buildup in your muscles when you dont breathe or dont breathe properly. Soreness is due to fatigue, and it is a sign that your muscles are adjusting and 'building up'.so big david, if you dont feel too sore when benching, dont worry about it. But, you may want to go for a WIDER grip ( wider then shoulder ).

Just because you do not get sore each workout does not mean you did not have a good workout. If you maximally stimulated the muscle with heavy weights, that is what counts. Are you making gains? Is your strength going up? Soreness is not an indicator of a quality workout, not after the muscle is conditioned already.
