Hello everyone! I am new to this forum my name is James i am 14 almost 15. I dont undertsand i do about 40-45 push ups(some times 45) every night and i dont see any improvements at all! I am not trying to aim for big muscles i just want it to get more durable. So far i dont see no improvements(not even a tiny lump!)! i have been doing 40 push up every night (except for the last 4days because i pulled my right side chest and arm muscle) for about a month and a half and i sometimes do some arm bars (or whatever you call it when you use your two arms to pull yourself up and your neck has to go above this bar) and i do about 10 every few days and i still dont see any improvements.. Should i change my workout plan or should i stop trying and try to work on losing some weight (i only weight in about 115lb-125lb 5ft3-4inches)? Any advice would be very good! Thanks for your time reading this!

I believe there is a routine you can do from this site that requires next to no equipment. Sign up for it and go from there.
But, keep in mind, push ups and chin ups aren't going to do it all for you. Continue to do those, but not everyday, and add in some lunges, bodyweight squats, crunches and a variety of other bodyweight movements. t -------------- I see the words you are typing, but all I read is *click*click*click* \"He may be gone, but Sanjaya proved that it doesn\'t matter how talented you are - if you believe in yourself, you can annoy literally millions of people.\" Jimmy Kimmel |

As Tim said, do move bodyweight movements. Once you've mastered them, add weight somehow. I use to be in your shoes when I was about 13. I'd do a ton of situps and pushups with no results. So, I decided to change things a bit. I had a maple tree in my back yard with the perfect branch that I'd do pullups on. My dad had railroad ties in a small wood pile behind our shed; I put some together and did dips. My younger sister would sit on my back when I did pushups. I had 2 bricks that I would hold when doing situps.
My point is, you have the ability to change your routine with what you have available to you now - no cost involved. -------------- --JBennett "I've up-ed my intensity.... now up yours!" Actualy i seen some change is that my chest seem to got a little bigger. Do you guys know any work out that you can possible do in the park? I seen some people use the park materials for their work out such as chin ups and stretching etc. I figure i could always jog to the park that i lived by and see if i can take some advantage of it (im already doing some chin ups in the park).

First off don't lose weight. 115 and 5'4" is healthy. Plus muscle is denser than fat, meaning, it weighs more than fat. If you are looking for weights my brother has some advice. He was in your shoes at one point though he'll never admit it now. Mom would buy the liquid detergent for clothes. So he would curl the containers. As the detergent in the container decreased he increased the reps so he went from strength to endurance. He would also tie weights to his feet when he did chin ups (getting your chin above the bar excersize you described above.) For weights he would use water, rocks, sand, whatever was available.

What do you guys think? I follow some of your guys advice and my muscle got a little bigger.
Left arm Right Arm Before at summer when i asked this question it was only about half the size it was now. Is that good that my muscle is growing so slowly? Or am I doing something wrong? Like I said, now I am taking it a little easier on myself as I dont want to pull my muscles (I need it so I can write stuff for school.) so I am only doing 30-35 push up a night. |

I can't bring myself to look at pictures of your arms. If you were a girl maybe:). However, I can answer your question. Muscle take a long time to build. It is hard and takes a lot of dedication, which is why you don't see very many people that are huge or even a little big. If you do everything right you can probably put on 15lbs of muscle a year spread across your whole body. More likely it will be 5-10, but at your age it might be on higher end. So, if you have seen noticeable results after just 3 months then yes that is good.

You don't get huge from doing 100 sit ups and 100 push ups. You get huge from eating a lot.

I don't understand your logic here. First off I'd think it would be hard to pull a muscle doing push-ups, and how would that affect your ability to write?
If you're goal is 100 pushups a day split it up into three groups, do some when you get up, at lunch, and before bed. You don't have to do them all at once. ============ Quoting from idontknow312: Like I said, now I am taking it a little easier on myself as I dont want to pull my muscles (I need it so I can write stuff for school.) so I am only doing 30-35 push up a night. ============= |

You don't pull muscles from lifting weights. You pull muscles when there is already something wrong with your body or a movement pattern. I've only pulled one muscle in all this time I've been training, despite all my other problems, and that one time was clearly my fault for being stupid and not paying attention to what I was doing.-------------- SQUAT MORE ~Jesse Marunde Mortal by birth. I was reading your posts, and you said something about not even getting a tiny lumb, and although this might get me in trouble, but it sounds like to me that you are trying to get bigger biceps, which is something the girls go for, by doing pushups. If I know my info well enough, push ups don't really do anything for the biceps. Pushups are more for the triceps, pectorals, and deltoids. I think the best exercise for the bicep is the curl. You might want to check it with someone, but I think that is right.
Just wondering, is there a difference in tearing a muscle and spraining it? I know you can tear a muscle by overworking it. That is also how bulk is built up, though, isn't it? The micro tears healing and the muscle forming extra fibers? So what is the difference between spraining a muscle and just the tearing of a muscle while you are working out? |

The difference is you can't sprain a muscle.
A sprain and a strain are both types of tears, but the names imply what you are tearing. A strain is a tear of a muscle or tendon. A sprain is a ligament tear. -------------- SQUAT MORE ~Jesse Marunde Mortal by birth. Strongman by the grace of god. Blood Guts Sweat Chalk |

The bicep basically covers the top, the tricep is the back of the arm, the pectorals are your boob muscles.... although I guess you wouldn't call them that for a guy... your chest muscles, and the deltoids are the major shoulder muscles. They cover your shoulders blades. I'm pretty sure that's all right.
Oh, pullups also help your biceps if you do an overhand grip, I think. Or maybe it doesn't matter on the grip. Ask one of the guys. I do know that the chins between chairs on the home workout plan help your biceps and shoulders (deltoids). Or at least, they have helped mine. So I would assume that pullups would help. |

It may help you in the long run IDK if you do some research on the human anatomy and the muscular/skeleton system, that would help you understand about the diffent muscle groups you are trying to impress the girls with :)...
Deadlifts are by far the best exercise for a total body workout, do lots of them and add weight as you go along, eat right and be a nice guy, treat the girls with kindness and respect, send em flowers and before you know it you have some lil cutie looking your way... -------------- I was bruised and battered and I couldnt tell what I felt I was unrecognizable to myself Saw my reflection in a window I didnt know my own face ... Well i just like to thanks some of you guys for the great advice! I have met my goal! Thank you very much!
My bicep is now a little bigger also it is more durable. Since I am now happy with my bicep should i work on two different muscle group at once? I would like my biceps to be just a little bigger and a little more durable, but i would also like to work on to get a 6pack. I havnt realy followed the work out guide untill recently (today because i didnt realy get what it meant untill now.). Any idea's or tips with gaining a 6 pack would much be appreciated. Also some tips with maintaining my bicep would be great to if there is any. Once again i would like to say thanks for everyone that has helped me out with great advice and tips! |
