oh lordy...stop with laxatives you're going to badly harm yourself...
your body burns fat for calories when you're doing activities for a prolonged period of time....in times of caloric deficits(whether due to nutrition/exercise or both)...such as when you don't eat enough calories in a day.... ..in sweat you lose water and electrolytes...and during defecation you excrete digested food.....our body stores quite a bit of digested food in our bodies inside our digestive tracks....you may expedite the process but this will prevent the body from effectively absorbing all the nutrients(vitamins/minerals)....STOP WITH LAXATIVES!....you have no clue what you're doing....save your health and money...go speak with a nutritionist or a doctor about your desire to lose weight... you want to lose weight? then stop looking for stupid easy ways out....you will lose weight effectively and without yo-yoing by focusing on improving your nutrition, exercise(both cardio and weight lifting), and sleep....no supplement will give u a magic transformation.... | |

34 gr. of sugar in the Milk shake for instance. Not a real good idea. It is however only 220 calories, and you can definitely lose weight just doing these. Slim Fast works like any other diet in the end, it deprives you of calories in some way. Healthy? No.....-------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... |

Slimfast is OK...but I suggest small healthy meals instead...u can still have them as one of your meals/snacks....count your daily calories and then try to cut your caloric intake by 500 calories max daily....through both nutrition and exercise(for example eliminate 250 calories by eating less and another 250 calories by running for half hour on treadmill)...focus on 5-6 small meals/snacks daily....with bodyweight in lean protein(chicken, turkey, meat, fish, etc) and bodyweight in complex carbs(yams, brown/black rice, buckwheat, 100% whole wheat/rye pasta/bread) and healthy fats from fish, avacados, virgin olive oil, nuts, seeds...etc....drink gallon of water/tea daily....there are some 0 or negative calorie foods(meaning body burns more calories processing them then it gets out of them...i believe celery is in fact one of those foods...)

this whole controversy with "negative" calories may need explaining.
Certain foods, especially low carb vegetables, are sometimes reported to take more calories to absorb than are gained. HOWEVER... The studies that were done to prove this were done using a fasted subject where the celery or test food was the only food consumed, and consumed in small amounts. Therefore, if you fast for six hours, and then have a stick of celery, it may work. However, since the majority of the calories used in digestion are used in the start of digestion, (think how most of the gas in a car is used in acceleration, not maintanence of velocity), it stands to reason that if your digestive system is already "primed", then it will be ineffective. Also, if you have other foods, these foods will be absorbed, and efficiency of digestion will be preserved. You cant cancel out your cheesecake by eating celery. Not directly disagreeing with anything menace said, as it was all great advise, but I know the mention of negative calories will spark excitement. Menace knows his nutrition, and its sound stuff, but exercise caution with miracle diets. I am not saying celery and carrots aren't excellent diet foods, they are, but they are not the only key. Just thought this should be said. Hope this made sense, and if not, I will clarify. -------------- If you smoke or don’t wear your seatbelt, please don’t tell me the deadlift is dangerous. ============ Quoting from 7707mutt: The squat cage is holy ground. ============ |

Wrestler thanks for correction...I read some stuff about it a while ago and didn't know the caveats involved with this particular subject...I was going more for a general statement/overview......I kinda instinctively had a feeling that there had to be a catch...as anything too good too be true probably is....

bets_onaDiet...Personally, I'd avoid the slimfast and other "diet aids" only because you won't learn anything about how to eat properly by using them and risk doing more harm than good. You may loose wt faster using things like slimfast, but your much more likely to put all the weight back on as soon as you go back to your "normal" eating habits. Spend some time looking around this site and learning all you can about diet and nutrition. The best "diet" is a lifestyle change to eat healthy and exercise on a regular basis. Be patient with your weight loss, a healthy loss is 1-2 lbs/week. It's not the easy way to go, but it is the best solution long term!
Good Luck! -------------- Even if you are on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there. |

I too was in your position menace, and immediately figured there had to be a catch. I did my research, and thats what I found. Figured I'd share and avoid the rest of you the trouble.-------------- If you smoke or don’t wear your seatbelt, please don’t tell me the deadlift is dangerous. ============ Quoting from 7707mutt: The squat cage is holy ground. ============ |

i appreciate that wrestler...that's the issue with most things....they all have exceptions for why it may or may not be the case, or if they will work or not and when to do or not to do them....
