Ok with having Gastric Bypass comes some challenges. My biggest is get the most nutrition in each meal. Mostly we are concerned with protein first, then carbs. I am looking for a protein meal that is for now on the softer side, meaning like fork tender. I have slow cooked chicken often but that gets boring. I was thinking of making meatloaf, but I need to watch the fat...I know Amy had a turkey meatloaf recipe but canna find it. Also I like variety lots of it as eating the same "soft" foods is killing me. I need the foods to be low fat, NO Sugar, splenda is ok. And lean as possible while being as nutritional dense as possible. Any ideas?-------------- A journey beigns with a single step. 7707mutt@freetrainers.com |

Mutt - I have most of the recipes in the food forum in a Word document if you would like it emailed to you. I've tried the majority and most fit what you're looking for.

mutt - the meatloaf recipe is in the challenge recipe thread.
Fish is pretty soft. Can you make a ground beef sphaghetti type sauce and have it on rice? Buffalo is very lean, ground buffalo would be good in a meatloaf recipe with some grated carrots and chopped onon in it to keep it moist. Have you tried baby food? I know some people who eat it because it is fast and conveneient - lots of 'soft' types of protein to choose from there. Lowfat cottage cheese? Scrambled egg and egg whites.... -------------- I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestionable ability of man to elevate his life by conscious endeavor. -Henry David Thoreau |

Ok Mike yes send it I will IM my email. Amy I can not eat rice or pasta right now. baby food is not a option, I think it does not have enough in it for me or something I will ask my wife she will know. I am eating about a 1 lb tub of low fat cottage chees/riccotta cheese a week, yogurt, pudding, I can eat slow cooked meats, not sure where to get buffalo will have to see. I eat eggs all the time too. I am also eating sweet potatos and soft veggies as well, I have to eat my protein first, then the carbs come a bit later. So there I am. I wanted the meat loaf thing cause my wife found a Lean Cuisine meal with meat loaf and mashed potatos. it is so good. thanks you all!-------------- A journey beigns with a single step. 7707mutt@freetrainers.com |

I add a beef bullion cube to the ground turkey and a little worcestershire and it has a cleaner (not greasy) taste than ground beef.

there is xtra lean ground beef at walmart that only has as much fat as chicken - priced a little high but it may be what you are looking for.

Great idea about the beef bullion and worcetershire sauce. I'll have to try that!

Ostrich is really good and very low fat. When I tried it it was some of the most tender (and tasty) red meat I've ever eaten. You said you already eat a ton of eggs, but boiling eggs and eating them if you get sick of eating turkey meatloaf and buffalo is option to fall back on. Try to eat some legumes (black beans, garbanzo beans, etc). The fat in those aren't too bad and the protein is fairly high.
If I think of anything else, I'll post it. I wish you well, Mutt. -------------- --JBennett "I've up-ed my intensity.... now up yours!" "Pain is only weakness leaving the body." "Never think of how weak you are; think of how strong you're going to be." |

Thanks for all the advice and help. I have to be care full of red meats as they do not digest as well as they used to. Also need to keep sugar, fat and the very fiberous veggies (corn, lettuce) out for a while.-------------- A journey begins with a single step. 7707mutt@freetrainers.com |

Mutt, spaghetti squash is usually a bit firm, like real spaghetti, but just like spaghetti, the longer you cook it, the softer it gets.
