I agree about age only being a state of mind!!! There is no way I am this old!!! My body tells me I am but my mind says you can't be over 30!!

Welcome to the community. Deby....If you didn't know what year you were born in, and someone asked how old you are, what would you tell them? There is one to think about! Good LUck in your new lifestyle!

Hi Deby, no I think there was another woman a little bit older.... In my gym the oldest member I have is 82 years old and it's a woman!! I can tell you she works hard! She does almost 10 kms of biking, then the rowing machine, the lat pull downs, press, abs etc lol she's a wonder woman!
You see age is nothing!
Welcome!!!!

I’m 23 and feel old; I’m training hard all the time so always have some body part aching so out the gym normal walk around slowly and painfully. I also both live and work on a university campus, but almost everyone else who lives on campus are 1st year undergrads (18ish) with no life experience so seem like kids to me.
I also watched a comedian (can’t quite remember who) who did a sketch about been old, making groaning noises when you bend over, appreciating a good chair, complaining “the music’s to loud to have a conversation” when you go out and starting conversations with “it wasn’t like that when I was your age” all of which I have been doing for ages! Come to think of it not remembering the comedians name is probably another sign!
Oh and as for Philia2’s wonder woman in my experience they are feared the most down the gym. No matter how much you tell yourself that what you lift is unimportant, if you consider yourself to be a muscle head and you turn around to see a granny doing twice what you did you can feel nothing but shame. So know your power and reach for your goals.

In answer to Carivan, if someone asked how old I am I would say 35 (my son's age!!!) But I need to lose AT LEAST 50 lbs and am really struggling with that. I really want to do a higher protein diet but do not know really where to start. Any ideas, anyone?

Well, try to eat 5-6 meals a day to boost your metabloism. Try to make each meal a combination of lean protein (chicken, turkey, fish, steak, etc.) and a fibrous or starchy carb (brown rice, green veggies, etc.). I'm sure more good advice will be posted here. Good luck to you!

All depends on your stats. 1-2 grams of protien per lb. of body weight ,1grm of carbs per lb. and fat should not be more than 30% of your total calories. Hope this helps. Also try out the nutrition area from this site, the #'s are out of wack, the protien is ok, but cut the carbs in half, and lower the calories about 500. Check it out and see what it gives you.
