Do you want it for cardio? Do you have any knee problems?

I have a recumbent in my studio and an upright in my living room - the recumbent is easier on your knees.

Don't buy a cheap bike - get a solid piece of equipment with variable resistance and programs.

You will be getting a better quality, longer lasting bike if you spend more and get one with an alternator instead of magnetic resistance.

But, if that is what fits your budget, at least you will have something to ride and it should suffice for cardio.

lifefitness makes decent bikes - club quality, but spendy. I got my upright for $700, it is an Alliance Fitness brand - it has different programs and takes your heart rate on the hanldebars. We (my husband and I ) take turns riding it while playing x-box, so it was worth the money.

Do you have any second-hand equipment stores where you are? I got my recumbent bike at 2nd Wind, a store chain here. I got a break on the price because it was a floor model. They also have used equipment, still in good shape. Also check the want ads in the paper - lots of people buy equipment and end up never using it and sell it cheaper than they bought it for.
