raffy....in response to the question about kill bill, I don't think that it was getting the eye pulled out that killed her, but the other various wounds inflicted by Uma Thurman.

actually, if you watch the end credits, it is not clear whether elle driver (darryl hannah) actually dies. they put a question mark over her name instead of crossing it out like the rest of the deadly viper assasination squad. when pei mei pulled her first eye out, she didn't die. yes, beatrix left her blind in a smashed up trailer with a deadly black mamba slithering around, but mr. tarantino makes it questionable as to elle's actual fate.
you will have to excuse my short essay, i have seen kill bill more times than any person actually should. i study it intently so i can make informed posts such as these. i will answer any more questions about the film here or by instant message. thank you. -------------- excuses are really good for making you fat. margarine is a liar who announces, "i am butter!" |

i will be disappointed if tarantino releases a kill bill vol. 3. bill is dead. the end. however, i would not be opposed to seeing some kind of beatrix kiddo/elle driver story. it could be along the lines of the story idea he tinkered with about victor (resivoir dogs) and vince (pulp fiction) vega. i wish he would follow through on that, but i think now he's gone back to working on his war epic.
but really, having a kill bill vol. 3 would be like the godfather part 3 — a bad excuse to make 2 stellar films into a trilogy. -------------- excuses are really good for making you fat. margarine is a liar who announces, "i am butter!" |

that would be nikki bell, daughter of vernita green, a.k.a. jeannie bell, a.k.a. cottonmouth.
recall the line after beatrix kills vernita: "it was not my intention to do this in front of you, but believe me, your mamma had it coming. when you get older, if you still feel raw about it, come find me." the thing is, that could be a good story, but it shouldn't be called kill bill, since bill is definitely dead already. maybe elle and nikki could team up — nikki could be elle's eyes... -------------- excuses are really good for making you fat. margarine is a liar who announces, "i am butter!" |

I got to go with Pulp Fiction. John Travolta and Samuel L Jackson were so out of character in that film, they were awesome. And I am in no way a travolta fan!

You would have forever been my wife's favorite person for this statement Howdiecat. She also thought that the opening scene was da bomb, responsibile for everything felt when it all came together at the end. Myself, it took about 3 times to really get it. Dumb jock syndrome maybe?

Well, considering Neo was the symbolic representation of Jesus, the conclusion was representative of the whole crucifixtion/sacrifice/final battle/going to hell, fighting Satan (Smith) on his own turf, winning, coming back and being resurected, and being "reabsorbed into the universe".
Remember, everything has a balance. What goes up must come down. Ultimate good versus ultimate evil. Without one, you cannot have the other. The stronger one gets, the stronger the other MUST be. Did you notice how much more power Smith had by the end? Yet Neo kept growing to match him. Everything has a balance. Just like Cheerleading. And people say it was just a movie about computers in an attempt for the guys to make some money. Ppsh! I thought it was great, a little predictible, but still a great trilogy. -------------- --Click here to insert a clever message-- Jonathan |

I liked how the trilogy ended. Of course Neo had to die because Smith had been defeated. And as jonathan said there is a balance that must always exist.

============
Quoting from bigandrew: but why was he carried off? How did he beat smith after he was turned into a smith? ============= I think that the carrying off was representative of Jesus' ascention to Heaven after being raised from the dead and hanging out with the disciples again. (If your religious views are different, that's fine. But don't argue them here, it's not relevent.) This would also lead to the ability to have another movie (thought I doubt that's the plan) or lead the thought that he's still available for a final fight (Apocalypse - Reveltaions - End Time - Second Coming - etc...), but I think they should stop where they are. It's all a parrallel to the story of Jesus. Thye had the "Real World" and the Matrix. By the end of the third movie, the Matrix had shifted to be "Hell", and Neo/Jesus had to die and go to Hell to fight Smith/Satan. As for defeating Smith once he became a Smith, here's my theory: (he = Neo) Neo knew that he couldn't defeat by fighting, because they were equals (just like Jesus and Satan). Therefore, he faught smarter. Instead of fighting on Smith's territory, he let Smith come into his. He has complete mind control over his own body. So... Let Smith, simply a computer virus, rampant code, 1's and 0's, enter his body, then virus scan him out. In the analogy, Smith was a computer virus, and Neo was the anti-virus. Once Smith entered his body, Neo was able to "fix" the code. I hope this is correct and that it helps you to understand the movie better. Again, this is simply my interpretation of the movie based on my upbringing, understanding of the Bible, of discussions about The Matrix Trilogy. -------------- --Click here to insert a clever message-- Jonathan |

Quoting from bigandrew: but why was he carried off? ============= It could also have been symbolic of Neo having saved "humanity", humanity including the machines as well, since Smith was overpowering them also. Actually, I think they mention in the 3rd film that Smith was Neo's opposite, so if Neo was positive and Smith was negaitve when he was absorbed they cancelled each other out causing them both to be destroyed. The whole sacificing himself thing is pretty much right on the ball.

It wasn't Keanu Reeves that was bad, it was just too predictible. And they incorporate WAY too much fight scene playing with the special effects equipment.
I really like Keanu Reeves, although I'd LOVE to see him play a role where his voice is different. Bill and Ted's was my favorite movie in high school, but he has got to change his voice up every once-in-a-while. Otherwise, it's the same character in my mind's eye. -------------- --Click here to insert a clever message-- Jonathan |

Back to Pulp Fiction i have heard that in the briefcase is Marcellus Wallaces soul hence the band aid on the back of his head where his soul was removed. An interesting theory at least if not as symbolic as all the matrix ones
