I started this program out in Sept. At that time I had just had a baby, and weighed 220 pounds...I am now 157 pounds, still over weight, I am 5'3, what should my weight be? I am of medium build. I would like to be 130 to 135 pounds. I also would like to know how to get these last pounds off, I walk everyday about and hour pushing a stroller, it's been two months since I have lifted weights, I cant seem to find the time with the baby. I want to get up in the morning, take care of the baby, when she goes down for her nap, get some weight lifting in, but I am so exhausted, and have lost motivation. Someone help me. I will be 40 years old next July, and want to look great! Not look great for being 40, and having four children, I just want to look great, I use to look great before children. Help!

Foirst of all - congratulations on losing 63 pounds , that is awesome!
Take a few days to track what you are eating, and figure out the average amount of calories you are getting in a day. Are you breast-feeding the baby? That will increase your caloric needs a little. Walking every day is great, but it sounds like you need to add some intensity. You could do intervals where you power-walk for a few minutes, then walk regular pace for a few minutes, and keep alternating. you can also do walking lunges, pushing the stroller ahead of you while you lunge. Taking care of children/baby can be very exhausting, when you track your food intake, try tracking the quality and amount of sleep you are getting at night - figure out if there is anything you can do to improve on them. Where is your husband in this picture? is it posiible for him to be on baby duty for 20-30 minutes in the morning or afternoon or evening so you can workout. i always napped when my daughter napped, but i would get up an hour earlier than she did to workout, either with an exercise video or some dumbbells. Another phase of my life involved getting up at 4:30, driving to the gym, working out and getting back by 6am to see my husband off to work. That was the only way i could make it work for me at that time. And i needed those naps !!! If there is a will, there is a way, you just have to get creative and figure out how you will make it happen. your energy levels may have a lot to do with what/how much you are eating - what does a typical day look like for you? What do you eat and when? 40 next July gives you a great goal to go for. Start by deciding what you want to look like by next July, then work backwards from there, setting mini-goals and creating strategies that will get you where you want to be. Go for a pants size instead of a weight - it will be more rewarding than the scale is, you can shift weight around and look very different at a muscular 145 than at a fat 145. Wow, you got the novel today, huh? Read and reread this and then give me some more info, we will get the ball rolling again. -------------- Nurture your mind with great thoughts, for you will never go any higher than you think. Thought I had one on my computer, but all I could find was a before pic of me, I mean before the new baby, and my baby, so I will take one with my digital camera to get a pic of my body now, and one when I have reached my goal in 2006.

Okay. Something has to give.
How can you make yourself about an hour every other day and half an hour on the days inbetween? You don't eat enough protein. you need some at breakfast and some midmorning (a shake is the fastest easiest way to get that midmorning snack). You also need to change your afternoon snack - and yes, have one - to some fibrous veggies and some protein, maybe hummus or string cheese or cottage cheese. Dinner - have that chicken and some green salad or steamed broccoli. Eating more, earlier in the day, will help prevent the cereal bar before bed. If you are hungry at bedtime, have some lowfat cottage cheese and a few almonds or walnuts. My suggestions won't add a lot of calories, but they will improve your energy levels and will boost your metabolism. Now...about all of those cool toys you mentioned! At night, watching tv or chatting with the hubby - guess what you can do? Put that stationary bike to use! Pre-contest my stationary bike becomes a piece of the living room furniture and i ride it every night while I watch a bit of a movie with my family. Hey - maybe he will even decide to take a spin once and a while. Another great thing to do when you watch tv with your husband is crunches during commercials, or push-ups, or anything that gets you moving. If you can't carve out time for yourself to lift weights you need to get creative. put the baby in one of those orbit playseats or in the playpen where she can see you, give her (?) something interesting to play with and lift weights in front of her. She may get a kick out of seeing mom act goofy, I am sure you can figure out some way to occupy her. Even if you have to go over and pick her up and walk a bit with her inbetween sets, you need to get to the lifting! If you do combination type moves you will get done very quickly. Try squats with shoulder presses, lunges with biceps curls, one-arm rows with kickbacks.. mix it up. Focus on keeping moving and challenging your muscles. Now, let me know what you think so far.... -------------- Nurture your mind with great thoughts, for you will never go any higher than you think. Benjamin Disraeli |

I don't know why one of my posts says I am "NULL"??? That's not me. but anyway....thanks so much for your pointers, I can do that...only I hate working out in front of my husband, since I have gained the weight, I don't like him to see the bulges...ewww :)I hide it as much as I can. But I will do it anyway, the results are what is most important, in a year, I will be showing it off not hiding it. Yeah, I know my diet sucks, but I will throw in those foods you mentioned. Thank you...hang in there with me, and I will get through this. Jewel

if they aren't up in a couple of weeks - email them in (I forgot the guy's name or I would tell you the addy now) Some people have been having problems with getting them up.
Keep up the walking that is good for you - your body will adapt but I'll keep at that for at least 3 months before trying to change things up -------------- Reddy All people smile in the same language |

An hour twice a day is a lot to jump into, if you find you are feeling fatigued, go back to 2 15-20 minutes walks a day and then add 2-5 minutes every few days, you don't want to fatigue your body, you won't get results if you overdo it.
Good job on lifting !!!!! Keep it up! -------------- Nurture your mind with great thoughts, for you will never go any higher than you think. Benjamin Disraeli |

I don't seem to feel fatigued, I actually like it, my daughter gets bored, so off we go...she likes being outside and I get to workout. I decided to take your advise, and wake up earlier than my daughter and treadmill it in the morning, weightlift in the afternoon and if I feel ok, I take my daughter out for a walk, it's closer to 45 minutes than an hour. I don't really time it, I go by how I feel and how much energy I have as well.
Also wanted to ask if doing floor exercises before cardio and weights =, is that ok, like crunches, lunges, stretching, leg lifts etc.?? |

Do them after cardio when your muscles are warm, or even after the weights routine so you have the most energy for weight lifting.-------------- Nurture your mind with great thoughts, for you will never go any higher than you think. Benjamin Disraeli |

I have dieted and lost a lot of weight before after having my other babies, but I was 21. Now I am 39, a bit more difficult, but that's ok. I lost 110 pounds after having my first baby, went from size 20 to a size 6 in 10 months, second baby, same thing, but I never looked as good as you do, and losing that weight was not at all the way I am doing it now, before was just cutting all food, and cardio like crazy! UGH! I looked skinny, with no muscle tone,,,wasn't the most attractive...just I felt better being tiny. This time, I want to look awesome, not just skinny, and muscular as well. I did cardio this morning, 6am, I really feel good.

I just did my measurements again today...over all since Sept., I have lost 77 pounds....since October 2004,when I started my workouts, I have been measuring my progress. I started out, chest 40",biceps 14",forearms 10", waist 41" hips 46", thighs 27 1/2", and calves 17 1/2".
Now,10 months later,Chest 34",biceps 11 1/2", forearms 9", waist 31", hips 37", thighs 21", calves 14 1/2".In October, I was 220 pounds, now I am 154. I wear a size 8-10 jean. My stomach measures right now at 35". I just started recently measuring my stomach. Wish I had done that in the beginning, sure would have seen a big difference there. Could someone give me a great exercise for hip reduction? What do you think about my progress, and where do I need to focus? Thanks. |

34-31-37 down from 40-41-46 is a great ackomplishment jajewel. cardio, ab work, and diet will be the keys for your stomach measurements to lower. Your hips will reduce as well from the cardio and diet. You've made really good progress so in the next few months you will really see your body take shape.

Well, it was very hard for me to pass the 20's to the 30's, now the 30's to 40's! I don't feel it, and I refuse to look it! Is that personality enough!!??? Thank you for responding to my last post...I guess looking at it the way you did, really does look good. I want that 34-24-34 body back I had a few years ago. I know I will get there, just wanted it faster this time around, and it's not happening like that. Just a few more months more...and I will be where I want to be..and can get nothing but better from there. Thank you FT...you really keep me on track, and give me incentive to push on!

Thanks "asimmer"! If there is a will, there is way, right? It is harder, no doubt, but I just know how much happier I will be when I get there. My arms and my stomach are my worst enemy at this point, the flab under the arms, and my forearms which I never had before, an exercise for that would be....????
