I've seen many low carb bars, shakes, and other products advertise the low amount of net carbs they contain, yet when you look at the nutrition facts, there's still many carbs to boot. Can these products be eaten in the evening? I was looking for something other than eggs tonight..

Impact carbs are carbs that have a high or medium GI rating and may affect blood sugar, thus an insulin response. You want to keep blood sugars down at all times with the possible exception of post workout.

So how come these products are recommended for low carb diets?

Because their marketing technique was always aimed at amounts, rather than types, on certain calorie diets. (witness what you are seeing now, impact carbs listed). This is due to folks getting educated.
