This is by Charles Poliquin. He is a famed trainer, strength coach. His principles are right on. I have tried to use them in my workouts as much as possible. It would do anyone no harm to pick up his book, The Poiquin Principles. Great stuff, and you will not go wrong following them!-------------- Failing to plan is like planning to fail! |

There's a few articles (a two part series, I believe) as well about Polquin's Principles at T-Mag as well. Great reading at that site with articles from guys like Polquin, Charles Staley, Ian King, Jon Berardi and Lonnie Lowery. Xphobicas, your question is right on. You are thinking. In most cases, yes. If you did this over any extended period, yes it would be. Sometimes a little "overtraining" is just what the body needs to shock it beyond its normal capacities. In most cases, yes. However, this is meant to be a single day routine, not part of a program. You'll annihilate your arms, but then with adequate rest (don't expect to do anything involving your arms for a week - Polquin doesn't mention that) It will achieve the desired result. Overtraining generally deals more with frequency than volume. The basis of weight training is to achieve 'the training effect.' This is when the muscles, after being weakened and damaged through training, attempt to adapt by growing larger and stronger in the following days. However, when a workout is finished and adequate recovery is not provided, that is when overtraining occurs. You muscles end up getting attacked while they are still in a weakened state and it actually sets you back. Woo Woo I am so excited, this sounds so cool to me that I talked my husband into taking me through it. Not this Saturday but the next (I have to go to my grandaughter's birthday party this weekend) Printing it out as we speak and I will let you know how it goes!!!!!! wahwahjimi - this routine is at a magazine that is decidedly hardcore, especially in its earlier days when that article was printed. That routine was not designed for novice trainees. I would venture to say someone without the requisite amount of weight training experience would overload on this program and have a high injury risk. Until your muscles are ready to take that kind of shock, I'd shelf it. Start with compound movements and you'll work your way towards something like this. Glad u like it sandy! tell me how it goes when ur done with it! Are u going to be doing this in a public gym, or do u have ur own gym?Im thinkin of doing it during the summer when i have enough time and am ready for it. Seems pretty intense but very cool. |

tempo is for example, lets say it sayd 112, the first 1 would mean u bring the weight up in one second, the second 1 would mean u hold the weight up for another 1 second, and the 2 means u bring the weight back down in 2 seconds. |

I think me and my bro are gunna try it out in a month or so when we borrow the equipment to do it at home. But the problem is the whole nutrition, we would need to go shopping b4 doing it. |

me and a few of my friends are gonna do it at the beginning of summer, when we have enough free time to recover. yea, the nutrition part asks for a lot of stuff we dont have. i dont know if i would follow the eating plan just as it says. |

As far as tempo - the first is lowering time in seconds, the second is a the pause at the bottom in seconds and the third is concentric or lifting time in seconds.Again keep in mind that this routine was designed for very experienced trainees. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who has not been comsistently lifting for more than a year. This isn't something that some guy just threw together for fun. Also, cardinal, there's a reason why the routine includes a menu. The workout is designed to work synergistically with the nutrition program. You take that aspect out and you lose 50% of the program. Ignoring that negates the whole point. Remember, all, just because a training program looks cool doesn't mean you should pick it up and try it. Take a few steps back and consider whether it is optimal for you. The routine was designed mainly for folks who have plateaued - have you? I want to try this pretty bad actually it is really tempting considering I would love to have bigger arms but I dont want to derail the workout I just started so I will hold off until I start seeing results from my current workout and since it only takes 5 days *supposedly* I make sure I have that much time to recuperate 1st.
