This came up on another websight I frequent some with a health and fitness forum...........anywas it was talking about benching with feet on bench etc.........then somone was bad mouthing the "powerlifting" style of benching.....saying its not 'right"

Anyways, I was saying goals are different for everyone, and yoru style depends on your goal. Now i said powerlifters do this style, cause its shortens the ROM and put you in a better and stronger posistion to lift more weight......however I was pretching the use of full ROM.......then somone said "why powerlifting form then, if it shortens it? cause thats not full ROM.....

honestly I was stuck lol? figured i see what you guys say...

Andrew it's still full 'ROM'...it just so happens that this max ROM is less than that of bodybuilding style bench....you cannot same that bench press is not a full ROM because you can't go as fully as when using Dumbells, anymore than you can say that powerlifting is not full ROM compared to bodybuilding style bench press....although powerliftings shorten the ROM by arching the back.....it still is a full ROM...you start at fully stretched position, touch your chest...etc....

partial ROM refers to only going through 'part' of the 'possible' ROM.......but if the full ROM for an exercise just happens to be less than that of another...then it's still full ROM....just a bunch idiots talking about soemthing the don't understand...

I dunno it seems to me that people could sit and talk about debatable things all day such as this. And bodybuilders will diss powerlifters and vice versa, but at the end of the day it's all about getting better for your own purpose whether you're an athlete, want to look good naked or just have a love for lifting heavy weights. Noone should diss another person's style. Of course everyone is going to favor their own style over someone elses because that's what works for them. There are always those things set in stone that cannot be changed, but I wish people would just stop dissin other people's styles unless it's somethin point blank and a no brainer. There's a difference in having your own opinion and bad mouthing someone else's style.

he wasn't dissing....he just asked....that I was pretching about full ROM, but then I stated I used a powerlifting style bench, to shorten the ROM so I could lift more...he didn't say it in a "ass" way, but it does sound hypocritical does it not?

I'm taking a critical thinking class right now. It basicly teaches you to rebuttal an arguement. One of the main points is, examine the reasons before your examine the method. Here is how I think of this question...

The purpose of a full ROM is to work the muscles through a stretched state, correct? When doing PL type bench, your chest is out, your lats are contracted and back, and your back is arched. What does this do? Stretch your pectorals and shoulders.
