I've been told it causes cancer and would like to know if I should be taking it. I have before and it worked great but my lifting coach says its not good. He says the long-term side effects are unkown, can someone who has been using it for a while (hopefully more than 10 years) tell me of any possible negative side-effects? Thank you.

I have not read ANY studies that show ANY relationship between cancer and creatine use. I have cycled creatine since 1995 and the only side-effect I've encountered was muscle growth. I'm sure if you didn't cycle creatine and just took it strait for 10+ years, it would take its toll on your liver and what not. If it really concerns you, do some serious research on it, but look for both pro's and con's. Make sure the studies or articles are from respectable researchers or universities and not some schmuck who writes for MAD magazine. Good luck.

Long-term side effects are unknown because there is no long-term time period to reference. People do seem to like to make stuff up about it, though.

If long-term side effects are unknown, then where did you hear that it causes cancer?

In any event, I think you'll need to do more research on this if you have doubts. Good luck...

Everything causes something, that is the nature of cause and effect.

Creatine is the most researched supplement in history. Our bodies already produce creatine naturally. There have been hundreds of studies done on creatine that all show that it is a safe supplement.

To further prove its safety two an a half million kilograms of creatine were consumed in the United States alone in 1999! That statistic alone speaks volumes about the safety and efficiency of this supplement! Not only that, but creatine has been the number one supplement on the market for almost a decade and no one has reported any adverse side effects from it.

At what point in your training would you begin using creatine?

I usually put a cycle or two in anytime I hit a plateau.
