Recently I came by a microwabable lasagna. The nutritional label read : "0 trans fat".
But the ingredient list read: "partially hydrogenated cottonseed and soybean oil". Aren't all hydrogenated oils supposed to be trans fat??? |

If there is a health food shop around where you live have them make it for you, or get it at a natural food shop.-------------- "A will finds a way, failure is not an option" Ivan carivan@freetrainers.com Montreal Canada |

I've seen that too, roger, and I don't know how they do it. But BB1 is right, stay away from any hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated.
Like Ivan said, find a place to grind your own. Trader Joe's has an "all-natural" PB, as does Laura Schuder's (sp?), I believe. -------------- Michael Trample the weak; hurdle the dead! Chaos, Panic, Disorder.... Yes, my work here is done! rev8ball@freetrainers.com |

@Kakarto: Look for generic brands of natural peanut butter. Your grocery store should have them.
Seriously though, don't even eat peanut butter if its anything but natual. They load the commerical stuff with trans fats so it doesn't seperate. -------------- - Its never about how much you can lift, or how many reps you do. Maybe there is some foul play involved when labeling the nutritional facts. Or a loophole or something.

Companies can list "trans fats" as 0 g if the amount of partially hydrogenated oil is rather minimal (peanut butter often has only a "small" amount per serving, around a quarter to half gram of trans far in it). However, they're still in there and even in small amounts can have very negative effects on your well being.
Like BB said, if you see the words "hydrogenated" or "partially hydrogenated", don't eat it. |

Totally! I buy a big bag of Roasted (shelled) peanuts every couple of weeks and munch on them when I get a snack craving.
High quality protien, EFA's and they are natural. Make sure you get the shelled nuts, because a lot of times they will cook the shelless nuts in Hydrogenated oil to perserve them. -------------- - Its never about how much you can lift, or how many reps you do. If you can afford it, go for raw almonds and cashews. Good fats, and some protein. The whiter the cashews the better the quality. Don't have to worry about any bi/products and make a nive meal with a yogurt. I do a mix of 1lb of almond to 1/2 pound of cashews. A handful is a good serving.-------------- "A will finds a way, failure is not an option" Ivan carivan@freetrainers.com Montreal Canada |

Peanuts aren't a complete protein, though they're a good source of omega 6 EFAs. Cashews are kind of high in saturated fats.
Personally I prefer almonds. |
