I am really new to this as I have only previously done cardio workouts.
Do you think it would be ok to do one day cardio and two days weights one week and then 2 days cadio and one day weigts the next?
Maybe I should mention I want to lose weight and tone up not gain!

That would be okay but I bet you would see better results with weight training two days on one off and cardio on the day you aren't weight training.

Another suggestion is to do some fast circuit training 3 times a week. This will work your entire body and give you some cardio training as well.
