Well, if you are following an ft nutritional program, and you are able to eat your daily protein, then no. Whey Protein is very helpful however as an after workout drink as it is a rapid assimilation protein that helps rebuild muscle faster. Your gains will vary by genetics, intensity, and desire. -------------- And my soul must be iron, because my fear is naked. I'm naked and fearless. |

Definetly take a protein supplement. Do a search here at ft and see which ones are the best tasting, priced, and effective. I use EAS Myoplex. To gain muscle protein is soo IMPORTANT! Also most protein powders have aminos and other key ingredients your body needs.good luck BQ -------------- AMERICAN MADE |

After your workout. Within 25 minutes of finishing up. How many times a day you take it is up to you. If you are looking for protein in other parts of the day I recommend something more like a weight gainer if you're going for mass. If you're just leaning up and toning than whey should be fine.-------------- And my soul must be iron, because my fear is naked. I'm naked and fearless. |

AND if you live in the Chicago area, you can have two tubs of American Whey protein powder that accidentally got shipped to my house and that the company apparently does not want back. |

Competitive bodybuilders I train with take about 1.0 - 2.0 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight. If you get enough protein from whole food sources, the better, as Cainsands points out. A supplement, in this case, is not necessary. If you choose to use a supplement to reach your daily intake, whey has pros AND cons. It's not the perfect protein as those supplement companies who sell tons of whey will have you believe. Me and my buds cycle whey with casein, total milk proteins, and egg (yes, egg). Use what works for you. |

Ice Man, some of us like the convenience of canned protein. We don't have the time necessary to prepare 5-7 meals per day.-------------- **_Robert_** Pain is temporary; glory is forever! |

I agree, especially with my scedule. Time is sometimes a big crunch and I have to eat on the go a lot except at night, I usually can make a good homecooked meal. The rest of the day, I have to eat for convenience.-------------- Lisa |

Whey protein is not a must. None of the nutritional supplement are a must. If you want a more convenient source of protein, whey protein is great. There are some great benefits to taking it. Whey protein and creatine didn't get popular until the latter half of the nineties. What do you think the muscular guys where consuming before that? If you can afford it, go for it. But don't feel like it's a must. |
