I'm 6ft 3 inches tall and at 285. I'm new to ft and proceeded to get set up and it says my intake should be 5600 calories. Am I doing something wrong? I did not choose an heavy workout program.

Wouldn't use the nutritional thingy here, read thru the "correct calorie intake" thread in this forum. It will help you see where you need to be. Should be around 2800 calories with a ratio of 50/20/30(P/C/F) to lose. Still sounds high but like mentioned there, this will actually increase your metabolism. Read the thread.

given your weight and activity level it could very well be a reasonable calorie intake....I would suggest to cut 500 calories at a time every few weeks and to see how your progress is going....4000-5000 calories could be a reasonable goal.....2800 is way too low....You don't get to 285 eating this little calories ...even at very little activity level...and cutting calories this drastically would mess up the metabolism and would lead to a lot of muscle loss.....

I'll agree I should've stated 2800 as a goal to work towards, but I think 4000-5000 calories is insane...just my opinion.

Mojo but consider how big she is....you don't get to being 285 eating 1500 or even 2800 calories a day....it took her(have to assume since her prof is empty...but this is female forum) a while to get to being this way and she needs to take it slow cutting calories to loose the weight....yes... eventually she probably would want to get down to something more reasonable like 160-180 lb.....eating 2000-3000 calories....but for now....she shouldn't cut her calories so drastically....

Consider even myself as an example...I eat 3500-4000+ calories and I am just 215.......granted lower bf(higher metabolism) but nevertheless....

I highly suggest taking fish oil supplement while dieting....6-10g per day....split morning 3-5g and 3-5g night....it helps lose bw and spare muscle ....

Yeah, 4000-5000 is about 14-17.5 calories per pound of body weight. I always thought in order to lose hough you wanted to take in somewhere in the range of 10-12 per pound. So with that being said, I geuss my original post was a little shy anywayzzz, I'll meet ya in between at say 3250-3500. You gotta remember, your feeding a body that craves 3500-4000+. She(if that be the case?) can stand to shoot for the lower end of maintenance. I'm definitly on board with the fish oil.

I think it really is more of a dietary change first when dealing with this weight. Conversion to more healthier meals and still large quantities would be a first step. you might not be able to get up to that calorie count with really healthy meals without being full, but you could get something close and then slowly back down the portion size to consist of the 500 at a time as Menace was talking about.
The main goal is to not just stop eating, because your body will think you are starving yourself and your matabolism will go into a conservative state. good luck....

Wow! That is alot of calories. I just signed up and am 6'2" at 198 (female), and my suggested cal. is 2638. I know there would be differences, but I thought that was high for me! Other tools I've used have had me at around 1300.

2600 is pretty close to what you should be at right now. 1300 is way to low. Your metabolism would be at a crawl.

2638 sounds like a reasonable amount of calories for a moderately active female at 198lb......1300 calories would shut down your metabolism....
