My name is Jeff & I'm 35 and overweight. I'm 5'10" & currently weigh 240. I'm down from 282, but the loss has been slow. I have an endomorph bodystyle, so fat loves me. But that also means I put on size quickly(for anyone who doesn't know about us endomorphs)when I work out. I'm looking to lose weight, but not muscle, then add more muscle. I've been doing the Body for Life program and while the exercise program has been good, my diet has been judged and found lacking in all aspects. One of my problems is how to put together a menu for daily eating. Oh, and one other problem is I believe I have an overeating eating disorder, so any help will be more than appreciated. Well, I've bared my soul to all of you and look forward to your input and help. |

Well Jeff, you have the right motivation so that's a great start right there. When I wanted to lose weight, I did the ol' watching my carbs and cardio. I lift too but, sustained cardio workouts are the best to take fat off. Your intake is really key Jeff, you have to ( I know this is painful to hear) cut down on your servings. The best way I found to do this is to actually increase the frequency of eating, i.e., eat 5-6 times a day but, smaller portions that amount to 300-400 calories each roughly. Obviously, cut down on the saturated fats; chips, fries, that sorta thing too. You'll be simply amazed how short a period of time it takes to see results.Keep at it Jeff, you'll do it. Take care. |

Lydia, I'll keep you updated and you do the same. I've never really "worked" with someone who had the problems you've faced and look forward to hearing your side. And if you need encouragement, send me a message, we'll chat.-------------- The meek shall inherit the Earth, but the strong and muscular will carry them through it! DP, thanks for the encouragement and advice. I've been trying to do just that, but have some really bad days. Especially when confronted with comfort foods. But since I'm here and am re-dedicating myself to myself and others, I know I can succeed. Thanks again for responding too DP. -------------- The meek shall inherit the Earth, but the strong and muscular will carry them through it! Good luck man! I have the same problems: I have the discipline to work out, but I lack the discipline to not eat! Since I'm a big guy (and I have some amount of muscle), I still have to eat a substantial amount - but I need to control fat intake, cut out the drinking, etc. etc. Basically it sucks to be fatonomically correct (well, if you are like me, and it sounds like it). But hang in there, it will get better! -Volsung -------------- That which does not kill you, only hurts real bad. |

Volsun, you are so right. I have the same problem you do with the fat intake. One of my biggies is carbs. I eat carbs and unless I'm doing cardio 24/7, it's turning to fat. I liked your joke about the bottle of wine on your original post too. But eating disorders of all types suck, not just for us but bulemics and anorexics too. So we'll all stick together and become success stories. -------------- The meek shall inherit the Earth, but the strong and muscular will carry them through it! Thanks Dan! I'm glad to see that I'm not at a site full of already in shape people who are looking for hints on getting even more cut or how to look their best at the beach. It's genuinely encouraging to find people like you and Volsung with the same problem.Dan, are you following the nutrition program exactly or are you making adjustments? Seems like a lot of carbs. -------------- The meek shall inherit the Earth, but the strong and muscular will carry them through it! That which does not kill me can only make me stronger. |

i think the most inportant thing is to stop eating befor you feel full and that right there will make a big diferance for anyone. today you can get anything you want supersized and if you eat all that you will reflect it. i did so now i just tell myself "ok i dont feel full but im going to stop" and it works. |

You're right Atcis. As a society, we've successfully "Supersized" ourselves.-------------- The meek shall inherit the Earth, but the strong and muscular will carry them through it! That which does not kill me can only make me stronger. |

I know what you mean you guys! I think subconciously we tell ourselves that it's ok to eat something if it is commercially available. As if it's ok to have it supersized since, "well hell, everyone gets it supersized!" And for only 49 satanic cents at that. Doh! But the ultimate balrog of fast-food corruption has to be the double-quaterpounder value meal, supersized with a coke and a mcflurry. Truly an instrument of the inquisition... -------------- That which does not kill you, only hurts real bad. |

Jplatz - there are all kinds of exercise sites out there....just either ask here or ck out some place like google. You will be amazed. Try www.calorieking.com, abcbodybuilding.com for starters. I posted a question a while back about fitness websites so try finding it on here, I would assume it's still in the archives. The most important thing is - you are doing something versus not. Just hang onto that "doing something about it goal". There will be days when you feel it's all not worth it, results are slow etc. but the end result you'll be happy with and health wise....you're doing yourself a favor. YOU CAN DO IT. Now, if you had no arms and one leg...that...would present a HUGE dilemma. But, ya got that stuff....now make it work with ya! :o) |

I managed to avoid the supersize meal this weekend. Woohoo!! Unfortunately, I fell prey to the siren call of a regional specialty, i.e., Skyline Chili. I don't know how many calories/fat/etc. a 3-way has, but I am sure it's chock full of lard (plus it's piled high with mild cheddar). Anyone from Cincinnati knows too well the power of Skyline. Ah well... -------------- That which does not kill you, only hurts real bad. |
