Hi,
Is jogging good if I want to build muscles? I'm 20, 45kg and jog about 6 days a week about 45 mins. I do work out but I've heard jogging burns muscles with fat. Is it true? Well, I need to build my legs as I have flabby thighs. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Jogging/running; its called the shrinking mans exersize.
Yeah its agreat way 2 burn calories, and fat if its done at an intense pace for more than 30 minutes.

Yeah but you should probably do more cardio, which is more useful!!

If you want to add mass to your legs try Sprinting 1-2x's a week instead of Just Jogging.
If you run too much, and do not take in enough protien you may start to burn Muscle, but if you Jog 4-5x's a week for 30 mins at a higher intensity, and take in more protien you should be fine. Also as I suggested, try Jogging 2x's a week, and Sprinting 2 days a week.

I believe Intruder made a previous post regarding a sprinting routine that was effective at burning fat (if not him I apologize in advance). It looked interesting and I may give it a try when it warms up some (if I can find it). I'm not sure it will build muscle (mass) to any degree though. Most runners are pretty trim.

I would say most endurance Runners are tiny, but usually Sprinters have very Massive Leg muscles. The Explosive Nature of Sprinting will help Build Leg Muscle. Perhaps not the same degreee as Squats, but alot more than long distance jogging will.

speeder you seem to know about this stuff...I posted this in the female post but nobody wants to play =( anywho...I run or swim around 5 times a week in the morning (average 15-20 miles, running, per week) This does not include my HIIT 2-3 per week. Too much cardio?

So you Run or Swim in the mornings 5 days a week, and then on top of that do HIIT training 2-3 days a week? Hmm Well you certainly are doing alot of Cardio. Saying if its too much would depend on your personal Goals, and if your Including weight training in with all of this Cardio. A general Guideline is 4-5 Days a week, between 30-60 min sessions. You do want to give your body ample time to Recover from all this Cardio, and you will probably get better gains from taking some days off. I know myself I can really push My intensity after a day or 2 off of Cardio. Perhaps think of doing the Running/Swimming on Days you don't do the HIIT training, and Try giving yourself at least 2 days of rest per week. Give it a shot and see how you feel, if you feel you need more, then you can always crank it back up to your current level!

thanks =) I am doing weights 3-4 times per week. I am trying to improve my run time, but I don't think HIIT will help with that; however, I really like doing HIIT.
