What this day means is that a lot of people have died for us to be able to live as we do. You may not always like the decisions that our leaders make that is a given. But we should never forget what that ability to speak your mind has cost us. Both of my grand fathers fought in WWII. THey were in the Navy and served in the Pacific theater. Pop Pop (my fathers father) was a great man, he loved large, lived large, and would give you the shirt off his back. He told me some of the stuff he saw during the war. For anyone in any war it is not pleasant or easy or anything but bad for that matter. He made the best out of it. I have to say thanks to all the have served, are serving and will serve to keep me and mine safe.

One thing that I find sad is that a lot of people of all ages will when ask what July 4th is be only able to tell you it is a day off of work.

What it is is people killed in battles for hundreds of years. What it is is men and women maimed. One of those saved my Pop Pop, a pipe carrying steam burst trapping Pop. A man grabbed a valve to turn off the steam, in the process his hands melted off his body. Yes that is right he lost his hands to save Pop Pop. For that I will always be gratefull. For the reason of saving Pop, but also for serving the country.

It is for People like that that I will defend the country in words and MY deeds till I am dead. Never forget them and the struggle we all have made to make this a GREAT country to live in.

Like I said before we may not always agree with the things done in the name of the USA. Fact is we have made and will make more mistakes. But I really feel that we do try hard to do good and do right in the world.

There I will get off me soapbox, Everyone, enojy the weekend and Hoilday and All be safe!:big_smile:

I just watched the Space Shuttle Discovery launch, and I thought to myself what a wonderful way to celebrate Independence Day...

So, everyone (even those who don't live here in the good ol' USA), use this as an excuse to go load up on the BBQ!

Absolutely - Happy Independence Day!

I heard something so disturbing yesterday on the radio. They were doing "Man on the Street" in NYC and asking people what Independence Day meant, what was the name of the war, who was it independence from, etc. Nobody they asked new any of the answers! No one! Sometimes you just gotta shake your head.

So I think everyone around the world should now celebrate it, and, if nothing else, use it as an excuse to take a day of your diet! Hell, we celebrate Cinco di Mayo here in the States, just as another reason to have a BBQ and to have sales at our stores...

:) it is already the 6th and I am still recovering!!! This year..we partied with the Air Force at the Freedom Fair in Tacoma, it was AMAZING and so good to spend some quality time with our troops! We had a beautiful air show that they performed along with local air acrobats, great music, sailing in the ocean, lots and lots of food and love flowing everywhere. It was an awesome 12 hour day.
