Alright, so here is my question:
How come when you go to lift something (like a box of crap or xmas decorations) that it seems heavier than like when you are lifting in the gym. Granted i haven't been home in a while to help with chores, but i remember when i lightly used to go to the gym in highschool i could lift a certain amount, but when id have to lift those boxes, it was sooooooo much harder. Is it because of the bulkiness/grip? Just my curiousity gettin at me.

Yes it would be because of the different shape so you are using slightly different muscles to balance and grip and lift than say a barbell or dumbell. I am a veterinary technician...so i lift a lot of dogs....dogs of the exact same weight but of different shapes/sizes can be totally different to lift.....a basset that weighs close to a lab is much more difficult as I am practically on the floor to lift it compared to just a slight bend.

To me it is mental. When I am in the gym I want to lift heavy weight. When I am home and my wife wants me to lift something heavy I whine and cry like a baby. This is heavy wa wa wa wa!!

I am always pleasantly suprised when i go to lift something that i think will be really heavy and i can heft it without too much trouble.
Use your legs!
Umm, maybe your family should cut back on the number of ornaments you have???

Yea picking weird things up and babrbels is diff. think about it a 45lb plat is easy to carry around than a bar, just cause of the distribution.......worlds strongest man compotiton.....is about heaving and carrying weird things lol...........another good example people don't think about is cheerleading, the girls have to be stiff as a board for me to catch them in a stunt, really tricky stunt is to toss the girl fromt he ground and catch both feet in one hand( its called an awesome) .........picking weird things up liek that actually may help you get stronger, me and my friends used to wrestle alot and that gave me a good fondation for strength, and core strength.
