There is a lot of discussion regarding resting between sets when weight lifting. What I was wondering is if I could kill some time by doing a set of 15 reps on pushups and then going to do a set of 15 on calves and so forth. Would this be just as good or should I be doing one muscle group at a time???

I personally work one muscle group or area at a time. Regarding pushups, whenever in between sets, I just rest 40-60 seconds in between. Perhaps the 15 reps of pushups works for you though. Go with what works.

If you are trying to gain mass, I wouldn't advise this scheme. You will exhaust yourself faster, thus not being able to lift your heaviest weights to achieve oveload. Give yourself the rest time between sets, it will benefit you greatly in your gains. I know if you are just starting out, there is this adrenaline flowing for a while, and you can't wait to do another set. This will wear off, and you will appreciate the rest time even moreso then.

actually i am trying to tone and lose weight...i figured if im giving one muscle group a rest, why not exercise another while im waiting to do another set on the first one??? does that make any sense....And moreso, i am trying to save time...Two kids and all....It's hard to find the time.

Well, in your case, I think this is a good approach. Kind of like circuit training, a great thing for someone who just wants to tone and lose weight. Sounds like this may be a good option for you, it is fairly quick, and you hit all muscle groups with regular consistency. Usually can be done in 25-30 min. or so. If you have access to a universal machine, this is ideal for you. You will gain some strength, tone, and get a mild cardio workout all at the same time. Hope this helps...
