You may have misunderstood,I have stopped smoking for 3 months now. With my current weight i want to build lean muscle and loose body fat and not really put much more weight on.My diet over last 2 weeks has been mainly lean white/red meat ,fish and cereal,so cant understand where the fat is coming from, also I have been resistance training for the last 2 weeks

Oh sorry I did get the smoking thing confused, good job on quitting and keep it up. Well like I said you can't build muscle while loosing fat, You have to pick one. To loose fat you need to create a caloric defecit and to gain muscle you need to have a caloric surplus. If your putting weight on you are consuming more calories than you are burning. What kind of cereal are you eating? It's going to take more than 2 weeks of weight training to see a change. What kind of cardio are you doing? Where are you getting your carbs? Check out the bodybuilding grocery list, and shop off that list. List what your eating daily so we can better help with your diet as that is the key here.

at the moment no cardio,so are you saying training alone will not lose any fat just increase muscle size, but dieting to lose fat i will lose muscle as well, sounds like im in a no win situation here.

No weight training will help loose weight and maintain muscle mass while trying to loose weight. Incorporating both weight training and cardio will maximize weight loss. It all comes down to burning more calories than you take in to loose weight. What you want to do while loosing weight is minimize muscle loss,by having a very clean diet high in protein. Sounds to me like you want to loose some fat, so i'd say go for that first if that is your main priority and as you loose fat you will expose the muscle underneath and probably be quite suprised by how much muscle you have. Then after you have lost the amount of fat that you are happy with you can then concentrate on packing more muscle mass on. Then cut away the fat again and so on and so on till you are satisfied. this is going to take time but the end result is worth it.
