I got one of my clients to squat today 135 for the first time, and for 15, no less, and, of course, breaking parallel for each one. Now, that in itself may not be a big deal, but here are the details:

38 year old female, 3 kids, 5'4, 140 lbs., has been my client for only 4 months. She got under that bar, unracked it, looked at me in the mirror, and said "Oh, yeah.... I got this!" Kinda makes a poppa feel special *sniffle*...

Here's the breakdown:
135 x 15
125 x 15
115 x 15
105 x 15
95 x 15

Dude you need to come up here and help the stick boyz I saw last night. All belted up, pad on the bar, 135 and all they could manage was1/4 squats. Now they were about 6 foot 3 or so but freakin A man go deep or go home! Nice Rev, you need to video that and post it!

Oh Ya...we women are strong:). Since switching from the Smith, I've worked my way up to 10X135 full squats-parallel, don't think I'm going past parallel though. Tried 145 the other day, did 6, but definetely not to parallel. It was the first time I tried starting at the heaviest and working down, so next time I'll try working up to 145. Seeing how you're all so impressed, it makes me feel like big strong girl:dumbbell::dumbbell: (Although she's littler than me, so I'm really impressed--although I am older:))

thats really good
-on a side note tho, how are you supposed to correctly position the bar on your back? i use a manta ray all the time because if i just go bare bar, i feel like i cant get it in the right spot and i end up resting the bar across my shoulders and nape of my neck. i saw some guy do it a lot lower like level with armpits, but i tried and A)couldnt get it that low and B) couldnt do much weight even if i could... please do explain...

I get bad burns if I don't use something under the bar....I normally use a towel....not sure at what point it becomes unbearable for me...I'd say once it gets over 315...it becomes quite painful....I have done 405 for reps before without anything but the burns were quite severe....i got relatively thin skin it seems....

FOTW that's phenomenal...seriously....fukn impressive....have never seen a woman in our gym do full squat with anything more than like 55lb....even our female athletes do quarter squats with like 135 who are on volleyball team..eh...

You get used to the bar. I like a lower bar, because you get better leverage. One thing most people don't realize is how to get the bar that low. At the top of your squat, you may have to almost do a shrug to get the bar up a little higher, and as you squat down, you can lower the bar. I use a manta ray every now and then, but for the most part, I like a high bar placement, unless I am doing olympic ATG squats. Just preference.

I place it on my traps, over the years I have found a spot I like and I can fine it in my sleep/ I used a towel once on the bar the bar slipped and I alomost ogt hurt. Same with the pads I hate them. I have maxed at 455 and have never used a pad, but to each their own.

I just shrug up...andkeep the bar off my spine. Doesn't btoher me....but I havethick shoulders from cheerleading for 7 years.. I find themata ray puts the bar in the wrong spot....atleast on me...

But i can see how the "skinnier" guys would have a problem...with the bar....not as much meat as say me and mutt.

yea... well i actually did some good mornings the other day and the bar placement seemed nice for squats... and this would make sense since my traps have grown so i might start being able to do them w/o any pad. i still get the marks where it looks like i got scratched to hell tho... ill just say i found a rough girl hahah. and yea, every since i lost weight the bones around my neck protrude more so the weight just kinda sat on them...

Your learning fast. I've already used that excuse once or twice. You are officially a weightlifter.

I got big traps ...it's not about that...but the skin itself for me is overly thin...this is in part why I have such nasty stretch marks ....it really burns/scratches my skin...placing bar lower on the back is very very awkward for me and very difficult to balance..

lol...another problem after getting those burns is that they last quite a bit...so even when u get through first couple of sets...the bar becomes unbearable on following sets...eh...guess I am not a meaty menace...lol....

Menace, I do not use a towel or pad or anything, but who cares if you sound like a sissy? As long as you're squattin, you're doin WAY more than the average lifter. Most are too big of pussies to do it period. Your goal is to squat as much weight as possible by building up lyour posterior chain's strength and power. You can do this even with a pad on your neck. So just keep bustin your butt.

Just wanted to update you guys on this monster of a client.
Yesterday was her leg day, and this is what she worked up to:

Squat: 200 x1 (a true "no no no" squat), and she blew it up.
SLD: 125 x 8
Box squats (leaning into a smith): 100x8x2
Walking lunges: 30 DBs each hand x12x2
Box step-ups/downs/squats: 60x12
Seated calf raises: 125x8
Leg extensions: 120x8
*superset*
Leg curls: 100x6

I almost hurled just watching her. And, remember, she's 5'4", 140 lbs., and 39 y/o, with 3 kids!

Wow, 200 lbs!!!!! That is crazy, she will be squating even with us soon at this pace. That is very impressive though man or woman. Especially after that little time, and actually doing the squat right.
