Hi, Im new to these boards. I just wanted to say hello to everyone and tell you a bit about myself.
Im a mother of two, a boy (7) and a girl (4) they are my life at the moment, literally. Im working weekends at the moment due to the little one going to kindy for half days, when I am working fulltime I usually choose work which is very active because Im lazy by nature and that was the way I used to get my exercise. Im doing my best to change that now, signing up here was a bit step! Now I do three cardio/strength workouts a week and work as a motel cleaner on the weekends. Im extremely overweight and you would imagine that these workouts would have an effect some where on my body, but apart from a huge measurement loss in the first two weeks, I've basically stayed the same. Even gone backwards a couple of steps. Im pretty sure it's got something to do with my eating habits. I have a big problem with portion control so Im desperately looking for ways to fill myself up with smaller amounts. Well that's me, in a nutshell. I hope I will find the motivation in here that I need, and that I can't get from internal sources. Donna |

DeeTee, For help on your portions. Try to eat slower. A lot of times you just eat and then when you have finished your portion you are stuffed. Especially when you go to restaurants that have huge portions.

Hi DeeTee and WELCOME! You are on your way once you take responsibility for what goes in the mouth! I understand how that is as after eating side-by-side with my husband, who is a HUGE eater and never gains but a few pounds here and there, I have increased my portions bit by bit by bit until I got to the point I didn't know what a "portion" was. I USED to overeat - since here and just two weeks before I started really watching my food portions and what I ate. It isn't always easy, but for three weeks I have not overate once and have only ate things I shouldn't of one very few occassions, so it can be done! Drink lots of water when you eat! Good luck to you! -------------- Veda MISERY IS OPTIONAL HAVE A GREAT DAY! |

Hi Veda and Liver,
Im getting there slowly with the portions, Im also cooking more stir frys which contain heaps of vegies. Unfortunately I've been bought up to eat lots of meat and potatoes and it feels like I haven't eaten if I don't. More psychological than anything else. My OH doesn't help much! He is skinny and eats what he wants when he wants, drives me nuts. If I can get control over this I will be completely on track, this place is amazing! I've never seen so much information in the one spot before, and so many people to give opinions and advice. Donna |

Donna, are you sure your not my long lost twin or something, lol! Honestly, your meat and potatoes, skinny partner and need for portion control sounds ohhhh too familiar! Tonight I was d y i n g as I made steaks and cut up/fried potatoes, but what I did was fry the potatoes in olive oil, just a smidgen was enough, and took as much fat off the steaks and it was great, but I wanted more, ohhhh so much more!!! But, I didn't because being thin and healthy is something I can have always, not just when I crave it! It is hard, but just stick around and stay firm and you will do better every day!-------------- Veda MISERY IS OPTIONAL HAVE A GREAT DAY! |

Hi Veda,
It sounds very familiar! You have wonderful control, although in the same position I would like to say I would have done the same. Do you have the same problem I do after dinner? Needing something sweet? I bought some very yummy reduced fat fruit slice thingys the other day, I thought it would do the trick. It did the trick alright, problem was I couldn't stick to the four they advised! Damn good thing they were small. Im planning on sticking around here as much as possible, this place is a mine site of information. Your patience for new people is amazing. Thanks :) Donna |

Hi Donna, no, I don't have the difficulty with sweets too much, I can go months without a candy bar and such though I do enjoy a homemade cookie or brownie from time to time, but I do get hungry very soon after dinner, even when I was overeating, but if I was to find myself eating some sweets, such as the brownies, yes, I would find myself taking one, eating crumbs from the pan, eating a half of another and then later coming back for the other half, etc. until I have surpassed my "treat" I allowed for myself. My current control is due to my workouts and knowing I do not want to undermine all that hard work with too much food, it is just too much work! Try that, it will get easier with time, I am still having stuggles and figure that will last for awhile, but as I eat better and better and work out more and more, I find that I am turning to good foods without thinking so much about it. Filling the 'fridge with good things has helped.
Thanks for the compliments, but my heart is so much into learning all I can and sharing with people so that maybe their day will be better for it, as mine is when others have taken the time to be supportive of me. I just think there are soooooo many wonderful people out there that aren't living life to it's fullest due to their weight being in control of their lives, I hate to see any of us waste another minute when we could be so happy, don't 'cha think! -------------- Veda MISERY IS OPTIONAL HAVE A GREAT DAY! |

Definitely Veda, life is for living, you are here whether or not you enjoy the journey, so you may as well live it up!
It's taken a while to realise that I wasn't living my life the way it should be done. Now Im amazed! Donna |
