Howdy y'all!
I go to karate twice a week (tue, 18.50-21.20, thur 19.45-21.20). It is totally impossible for me to go more than this. However, there is a comp coming up on 20th november, that I intend to win! Would I be overtraining if I did weight training and cross country running the other days of the week? And as for the weight training, i can't get to a gym, but have dumbells. What excercises would be best or karate?

Haven't got any time to take on a new sport. I meant, just limiting to running outdoors and using dumbells, what would be best prep for competition? I need more stamina, agility and power.

stick with swimming and running swimming will increase your strength and stamina where as the running will imporve your speed and indurance. also try to mix sprinting and long distance as this is a better way to train :)

"try to mix sprinting and long distance as this is a better way to train"
exactly what my sensei said!
Thanks all!

:surprised:
oh dear...
Turns out that this is a NATIONAL COMPETITION, as in, there will be people there who compete for England. Oh. My. God. I am going to get the living sh*t kicked out of me. People! I have been doing this for a grand total of 3 MONTHS!
Oh lordy!
Will post pics of my nose spread across my face. If I die, I bequeath my dumbells and karate equipment to you guys.
ps. However, I am still going to try and kick some serious ass, even though it will probably all be black belt ass.

COMP UPDATE!
It was a brilliant day; impeccably well run and organised.
One guy from my club won gold in the 16/17 yr old 70kg+ category!
I was up against 7 black belts, several of whom were international medalists, but everyone including my sensei and my teamates said that I fought really well; I never backed off, I kept pushing her round the ring.
She planted a massive kick in my stomach - I just crumpled onto the mats and they had to call a medic over!
Just as I was getting over that, she punched me in the nose - there is no bruising or bleeding, but I definately heard a crunch!
Then, she got me in the stomach again! I am so sore today!
So, unfortunately, was out in the first round, but I don't care. I was the lowest ranking, least experienced person at that event of hundreds by miles and I feel like I gained so much by being brave enough to take on the challenge. I cannot wait for the next one!
