The folks in the gulf can use all the prayers we can offer. This storm is the storm of all of our lifetimes hitting possibly the worst location in our country a storm can hit. I think our world is going to change tomorrow. Doom and gloom isn't my usual style but this one is horrible and recovery will take years. Please say a few prayers.

Katrina is hard to imagine if you haven't been through one of these. We're still recovering from Ivan and that was a small storm compared to this one.-------------- Mike in Pensacola Now. |

ksmith - were you with the service crews?
We finally had a storm that didn't beat the dickens out of us. By the time it got here it was a little wimpy thing with only 80 mph winds. Louisiana and Mississippi caught it big time though. -------------- Mike in Pensacola Now. |

no mike, i decided to move there from ct...bad decision, 4 hurricanes later i came home to ct to deal with the snow instead.
i am going to la after katrina is gone with my boyfriend. a company that he used to work for called last night and asked if we would do a run with the relief crews to ship emergency supplies. (we will be driving a tractor trailer down) when i was in florida i was just outside if lake city. i think it was frances that hit us the worst. but those 4 storms ruined my view of Florida. we have a house now in port charlotte and i won't even go to it... |

Bless you K. My brother and I ran a bunch of generators to Charleston after Hugo. The locals had jacked prices on available genny's. We took 12 down at prices from 500 miles away and sold them at the normal price. Bought 'em two days before the storm. I still hear from some of those people. I've survived 4 of them with the center passing over. We got into a North atlantic storm with 90 foot seas in the navy. There is no more helpless feeling. If I'm on the boat with a storm coming, I AM GONE!!! We run north or south if we believe the track info. If not We drive the car away. A hurricane is to scarey for me. I think I may head to New England next hurricane season.-------------- Sometimes life is like herding cats. Charlie

Hey Charlie - I was in Charleston for that storm and it was memorable to say the least. :)
Dennis a couple of weeks ago caused the least amount of damage I've seen but we had 130 mph winds and that was a first for me. I was watching some trees doubled over and leaning to the east just before the eye came over and and about a 1/2 second later they were knocked down to the west. Dummy me was out on the porch to use the cell phone and the pressure was so low I couldn't open the door to get back inside. :) -------------- Mike in Pensacola Now. |

Who'd a thought that the storm would pass and the worst part was yet to come. 2 days later and the water is still rising.
My prayers go out to anyone in the area and anyone that has family and friends in the area. |

It's pretty unimaginable. We weren't back to normal for 8 months after the eye of Hugo. These folks won't be able to even start rebuilding for 3 or 4 months... that's if they can stop the flooding and then pump it out. This has never happened. The rescuers and repair people are totally Christophor Columbasing here. Just never been done.-------------- Sometimes life is like herding cats. Charlie

I am kind of curious where are all these countries we always rush to aid at? Not that we need it, but the offer would be intriguing to say the least.-------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... bb1fit@freetrainers.com |

I was watching this on the news last night. It is so apocalyptic that I think it may be to the point that saving New Orleans is a lost cause, and maybe it's time to start thinking about rebuilding it somewhere else.-------------- Michael *ITS LEG DAY* You already blew out your wraps. I agree Rev. I think we are going to have to re-think the entire coastal situation. All hurricane damage is handled through the federal government at taxpayer expense. It's not right to have everybody pay for a few over and over. Coastal areas may have to become the playground for the super rich. I have lot's of kin on the coast and I'd be sorry if they had to leave but I'm tired of paying for it.
N.O. was a disaster waiting to happen and it's obvious nobody was ready for this. Maybe it should just become a seaport and the entertainment part be rebuilt somewhere else. -------------- Sometimes life is like herding cats. Charlie

I can't even imagine going through what these poor souls are experiencing. I thank the Lord for letting me wake up each day.
Was glad to hear our federal Government will be sending down crews including our Armed Forces Specialized DART Team, and what ever Washington asks us for. Charlie - When I lived in the Carolinas, both those states started buying up beach property and turned 100's of miles of coastal areas into building exclusion zones. This storm may be different but after Ivan, I personnaly know of several people who got reimbursed for generators and other things that they bought AFTER they got power back on and were back in they're homes. The good news is that FEMA investigators are back in town matching claims to power company records so there may be some folks getting an unpleasant knock on the door.-------------- Mike in Pensacola Now. |

I read this morning 26 countries have offered aid.

it's nice to know other countries are coming to our aid, even though we aren't excepting their assistance. Why??????-------------- Bettia.... You will only be remembered for the things that you finish, not the things that you start! ravenbeauty@freetrainers.com |
