hey, recently my mum went to Holland and barretts (health food shop) to look for protein powders 4 me (wanted 2 compare prices as her gym also sells em) but the lady there said a 14 yr old like me shouldnt be takin protein powders. I've asked if i can on FT before and someone said its alright for me to take protein powders. But this lady at the health shop said i shouldnt be. who's right? I'm really active - work out with weights 3 times a week, cardio twice a week as well as PE twice a week (although not very active in PE). Also IF i cant take protein powder in a shake after my workout, what about just puttin it in food to increase my protein intake, i mean i do try to take in lots of protein but some days its hard to meet my requirement - thats why i'd like protein powder, also after my workout i think it would help.
im pretty confused as to what i can take and what i cant, and how... Can anyone help me?
Any input is appreciated :)

FT people!!!!!
there is nothing wrong about taking protein powders. protein powders are chicken breast tuna meat.... "already digested" (to simply the and if you know what i mean). thats why we take them, because they get to muscle faster then whole foods. dont worry, you will be fine. i started at 14 too and i took protein and nothing bad happened.

I'm 16 and I take them as well. It's ok to take them at our age group.

some protein powders say they're only for people ages 16 and over, im not sure why, but i'm sure there are some ok for ur age. I know people who put protein powder in food and stuff they bake which theyre kids eat, so it must be ok to put in food etc, but i'm not too sure about protein shakes etc.
sorry if i'm not too helpful, good luck!:)

i think the only thing you should hold off on would be taking creatine.. but protein is protein. having a shake and eating a chicken breast are both going to give you protein, but like kakaroto said, protein shakes are good to get it into your muscles quickly, or as a meal supplement to meet your dailys.

The Holland and barrett stuff is not very good, it is quite low protien per scoop and I find it binds me up... which is not cool! at the moment sticking to natural methods although its hard to meet requirement....which I am not, still growing though.
I think its fine to use protien...its only 'food' and I found helped recovery.
A friend of mine uses Protoplex which he thinks is good.

You can take protein powder, there's nothing in it but protein. A 2 year old baby eats protein and it doesn't hurt it, so you can too. (not suggesting giving a 2 year old baby protein supps though lol). But no protein powder wont hurt you as long as you don't take too much, just take 1.5grams per lb you weigh of protein a day through all the foods you eat including the powder and you'll be fine.
