Today for the first time I bought supplements, namely L-Carnitine due to the extra 4 lbs I can't seem to get rid of. I searched fitbuddy but have not found answers to a few of my questions. First of all, I bought 500mg capsules, so I should take two before workout but do I have to take any for my post workout? Also, I usually do a 45 min cardio session after lifting weights for around 45-50 min, so should i shorten my cardio or keep it the same, or make it longer?Oh, and just how much does carnitine speed up fat loss??I mean, if I didn't take this stuff then how much longer would it take me to lose a few lbs?Ok,that's all my Q's for now, thanks in advance!!:)

I have taken it, I think its more hype than actually working. Just my opinion though. Its still gonna come down to diet in the end, up the cardio a lil more if you wanna burn more calories, and keep the food intake at the same. Although from your pic, you look just fine to me:) again just my opinion!

Take it one hour prior to your workout. How many times per week are you doing cardio? Maybe it's time to change your cardio up a little.
Carnitine is one of those supplements that is kind of "all or nothing;" you'll either notice a difference, or none at all. I'd give it 4-6 weeks (enough time for your body to adjust) to see if anything happens.
Good luck....

Thanks Andrew for the complement! However, I feel fat with these extra few lbs. Maybe it's just me...i don't know. I workout four times a week, sometimes five but usually only four, usually around 2 hours each. My problem is more with my diet I think, namely snacking after supper. This is because I usually have a salad for supper with some protein like cottage cheese or jogurt, but i get hungry in an hour!So I get out some baked pretzels or low-fat crackers, but I guess I shouldnt be doing that. Well anyways, I will try to do some hiit to vary the cardio, and hope that this l-carnitine stuff will work. Oh, one more question, do I take it on my rest days or only if I'm going to work out that day?

Rev made a good post....here is the scoop on L carnitine and why I believe it works best with BCAA's.

L-Carnitine basically serves two extremely important functions as far as we're concerned as bodybuilders, burning fat and the metabolism of branched chain amino acids (BCAA's). L-Carnitine is a co-factor which is required for transport of fatty acids into the mitochondria of your muscle cells where they serve as a substrate for energy production while sparing muscle glycogen. L-Carnitine works synergistically with branched chain amino acids to increase their net metabolism. Remember that the BCAA's are the major amino acid constituents of your muscles. An in-crease in the amino acid content of the muscle will result in, at the very least, increased muscular hardness.

One further note on L carnitine....Be certain that your L-Carnitine is from a reputable company. L-Carnitine is very expensive to manufacture and is very unstable. It's hard to make and hard to package. Therefore many products listing L-Carnitine on the label do not assay out to the label claim.
