What are your thoughts?...A guy in the gym is using it to make weight and it is working well for him, I guess not to people know about this supplement but it seems effective in cutting the excess fat but it could be all placebo w/ the amount of training the man goes through...Your thoughts and experiences?

Carnitine is an amino acid that is synthesized in the liver and kidneys from lysine and methionine. The major function of carnitine is to facilitate the transport and metabolism of long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria for beta-oxidation and energy generation. Carnitine can be also found in the diet in foods such as meat and dairy products.

Claims:
Enhanced endurance
Increased fat metabolism
Lowers cholesterol & triglyceride levels
Cardioprotective

Theory: Carnitine supplementation could potentially be beneficial under several conditions. First, because of carnitine’s role in facilitating fatty acid transport into the mitochondria for oxidation, it is possible that elevated carnitine levels would permit a greater/faster transport of fat leading to increased fat oxidation, which may impact weight loss and/or endurance performance. A greater reliance on fat for energy may also result in a sparing of muscle glycogen and a subsequent enhancement of exercise performance. It is also theoretical that supplemental carnitine could have some effect on reducing lactic acid accumulation in muscles by buffering pyruvate and, therefore, extending exercise capacity before fatigue.

Use Acetyl L Carnitine. Much more effective.

is the acetyl group good for more than just improving neurological function? does it aid the l-c fatty acid metabolism as well?

also, i've seen 1, 2, and 3g recommended doses. if given the choice between a 500mg cap and a 1000mg cap, which is better to take and how many times a day should it be taken?

i'm not finding the answers in any of the journal material i'm reading, so i'll consult the human supplelent journal :)

Alcar rather than regular carnitine is better utilized 1 gr. before training and 1 gr. post training.

Good stuff. I found the 500 mg. caps on sale, and used 2 before and 2 after as noted. Good solid dose for fat burn purposes.

Much less will not yeild very good results.

See, I read acetyl wasnt as good....But I will stick w/ you since trying it yourself.

So take 2 before workout and 2 after? the pills id be taking would be 500mg. Also I read that if not taken properly could actually result in weight gain.
