This is my first post here. I have a one month old baby and had a c-section. This is my third boy.
I am nursing my baby and plan to for as long as he likes. So my question is if I am suppose to be eating a little over 3,000 calories...what do I eat. Does anyone know of any guides or meal plans made specifically for nursing moms?I of course want optimal nutrition for my baby and want to make the most of my calories.
Thanks!

Hi
What did you eat while you were pregnant? still to whole grains, proteins fruit and vegtables..watch your portions and continue taking your pre-natal vitamins..Try and get into the habit of drinking a glass of water each time you nurse,so you stay hydrated.

Stay away from foods that make both of you gassy. Broccoli, cabbage..you know the drill. You need to be eating enough to support both of your nutritional needs, but that doesn't always mean 3000 cal/day. Think reasonably, if you have a large amount of fat stores, maintaining your vitamin levels and iron stores may be enough without any change to your diet. Surgically attach a water bottle to your hand, watch your iron levels, and enjoy this short time with your son. He'll tell you if you are not eating enough. Other than that, relax. People have been nursing babies for 2000 years on less food that 3000 cal/day.
