Hi There. I need some advise regarding my working hours and my eating habbits. I work on stage so due to the nature of the job, I generally get to bed late (2am) I also get very hungry after coming of stage at around 11pm and I oftern end up eating crap fast foods or foods from a service station late at night. I also travel from one theatre to the next and so again I end up eating foods that are avalible to me from service stations and other small outlets that frequent the moterways here in england. I don't have any perminant access to fridge or cookers.

I really really need some help to keep to my recomended nutrition plan which consists of
Protein -168 g
Carbohydrates -588 g
Fats - 41 g
Total Calories - 3357

with out eating crap. Please plesae all you experts out there help me!!! Many thanks in advance

Eddie - Eating at night is okay, as long as it is fitting into your caloric needs.

A few things that you could pack and eat that don't need refirgeration:

Apples, oranges,bananas

ready-to-drink protein shakes or pouches of shake mix and a shaker to mix in in with water, or protein bars like tri-o-plex, which is opat-based and very tasty/filling

beef or turkey jerky (drink lots of water)

peanut butter and all-fruit jelly sandwiches (my husband likes all-fruit blueberry spread)on high-fiber bread

You could also get yourself a small cooler and do some prep work on your day off (aren't Mondays dark?) , cook up a bag of frozen chicken breasts, a pot of rice and a bag of frozen green vegetables, duidivde them into containers and now you have meals that can be eaten cold, may taste better microwaved, but are better than junk.

I often ate salad with a can of tuna and some rice, topped with flax oil and garlic, salt&pepper in my car in-between appointments.

You may also want to look at the small cans of Tuna in water or olive oil, hard boiled eggs, and if you do bring a cooler, cottage cheese...

A little discipline at the table and at the gym might help reduce that belly!

Thanks for all of that. Its really helpfull. My one concern with pre packing in to a cool bag is that I'm sometimes away for five days at a time and I would worrie about eating foods that have been sat in the car for that period of time. It may sound silly, but how long would the foods mentioned last i a cool bag?

Also, asimmer, I have your list of foods that you posted and is most helpful, but where would beef or turkey jerky fit in to a nutrition programe. May I also say how many of you articles and post are helping me. It really fabulous. So thanks for your time.

Kind regrads

This sites tracker is not a good one to go by. There is some kind of bug. Not sure why but it is always high.

When I consider the short duration of my life, swallowed up in the eternity before and after, the little space which I fill and even can see, engulfed in the infinite immensity of spaces of which I am ignorant and which know me not, I am frightened and am astonished at being here rather than there; for there is no reason why here rather than there, why now rather than then. Who has put me here? By whose order and direction have this place and time been allotted to me? The eternal silence of these infinite spaces frightens me.

ah yes Eddie...the nutrition tracker always seems to be off...the cal and carbs way to high.Amy will be able to help you here...I just follow her instruction...at 150 lbs she has me at 1650 cal a day..breaking down to 202g protien,82g carb, and 55g fat.I'm sure my numbers don't help you much...but it can give you an idea of maybe where you want to be for your goals..yours would be different depending on your weight...ok...I know I'm not making sense...so we'll sit back and wait for Amy to help.:)

For female try 1600 tops 1680 Calories, for a Male try 1824 Calories.

With not knowing much about you this is the best I can do but if you hook up with 1 of the trainers here they can really get you going in the right direction!

Use this link http://www.freedieting.com/tools/nutrient_calculator.htm to help you set your intake in Carbs, Protien and Fats.

i sent you an email.

As far as being on the road for 5 days at a time... this is where your meals ready-to-eat like shakes are going to come in handy. Oatmeal, carried in dry form and then made with hot water, instant potatoes, in a pinch (my husband lived off potato buds in college, he would just put the flakes in a cup and add hot tap water, ewww). Dried foods will keep without refrigeration... the jerky/smoked/tinned meats will be easy non-perishable sources of protein, just be sure to drink plenty of water to balance the extra sodium intake. A bag of apples will last quite a while without refrigeration. Hard crackers like wasa crisp or rye crisp are good multigrain carbs that need no refrigeration.

If you had a cooler and you kept refreshing the ice (at gas stations they usually sell ice) you might be able to keep perishable foods at a safe temperature for a few days. We often take along deli meats and cooked chicken breasts when we go raod-tripping, along with milk and bread, etc. to save on eating costs.

Many Thanks Amy. All you have advised on has been most helpful. And I'm now a little addicted to beef jerky, which is not really that poplar here in the UK, but I managed to hold of it.

Just be sure you drink lots of water with that jerky...I had it for lunch the other day and without enough water it really left me bloated from retaining water...so watch your water intake!!:)

If you like sardines they are a source of good fats. But keep mouthwash around for the killer fish breath!

Sardines, Tuna and Brown Rice in a sauce of your choice (Mustard and Hot Sauce or Salsa and Fat Free Mayo is my favorite)is choice, you can even wrap it up in a whole wheat tortilla and make a burrito.

Thanks for all that advice guys. Just a quick question regarding KC_72 comment on beef jerky. You mentioned about drinking plenty of water while eating it then say to watch wter intake, and I'm now a little confussed. If you could elaborate that would be really helpfull

Thanks again
