Is it best to stand up and do lateral raises or be sitting down. This woman at my gym does them sitting down.

I don't think it really matters... it just adds some variety... perhaps a challenge with balance and such

It is genearly harder to do them sitting down. The reason is that you can not cheat as easily sitting with this exercise. You have to go lighter and it forces you to realy use the delts. Standing is just as good but you can cheat easier and use more weight. Neither is better over the other, just different and uses a slightly different range of montion. it is really a matter of choice.

Oh yeah! And try doing them one side at a time when sitting down. Now, why does that suck sooo much?

try leaning against a machine or wall, this way you can't cheat at all, its all delt

Cable side laterals are very cool. Do one side at a time, resistance at all times from the cables pulling back on you. Not as easy to cheat either. Put the opposite arm behind your back.
