I am postingthis in the beginers section because of an incidant at my gym the other day, that almost messed a kid up for life.
He was trying to squat 225in a smith, no spotter no "spot bars" in place......as he went donw his knee gave out....BAM 225 hits the floor, luckly he dove out of the way. However he limped out the gym that day. None of these squats where parellal ......... heres my takeon it, his friend was squating 225...so he thought he could, with a lil warm up......cause the kid only weight about 150. His friend 170+ so he wanted to show him and the gym he could squat 225 also......This my friend is what I call lifting with your ego........that is you go in the gym to show boat...... heres the fact though the way I see it, you lift with your ego your gonna be like my friend up there.....hurt and limping out. IF you truly like working out for health reasons or for sports.......if you get hurt you can't traing for weeks on end........that guy was lucky he wasn't pinned under the weight and tore somthing in his knee. Your ego wil always say your 10lbs heavier and bench 20lbs more than you really do.... keep it in check and workout within your self meaning if you never bench 225 in your life, but cause a cute girl is looking at you .....you have the desire to try it that day.. after 4 sets already.....today isn't the day......thats ego saying "try it, try it man" Take a tip from the ladies, they are never worrried about show boating.....they do what they can do and leave..... so in short LEAVE YOUR EGO AT THE DOOR GUYS have a good day, and good luck with your goals -------------- " The only true eye, is your minds eye"- plato |

Reminds me of the guy I saw who clearly had the treadmill on too fast, and fired himself off the end of it. All us girls were really impressed seeing him in a heap on the floor...

"LEAVE YOUR EGO AT THE DOOR" I wish they had that plastered all over the weight room. The bad form and the noises some people make to lift is just hilarious sometimes. I swear sometimes I go to the gym, just for the entertainment factor in between sets. Couple that with the girls that have the DON'T LOOK AT ME attitude, but are wearing the most skin tight outfits known to man. It's just priceless somedays.

I agree with gangster shoes, What is up with the women who wear very revealing clothes with every thing hanging out in the gym? They obviously WANT people to look at them, yet get caught looking and they look at you back with disgust like your some weirdo. Even if you give them a friendly smile and say hello. I have news for them, not every guy that looks, wants them. My rule of thumb is... If you show it, I'm gonna look at it... If you do not want it looked at don't display it! Am I wrong?

I can understand the guy's motivation though. It's daunting to walk up to the rack of free weights and join the herd of meatheads (not you meatheads reading this, you guys are cool) on their 10th superset and not feel a tad inadequate. Sometimes the testosterone floating around is palpable.

============ Quoting from gangstershoes: "LEAVE YOUR EGO AT THE DOOR" I wish they had that plastered all over the weight room. ============= Wow that summarizes everything I wanted to say as well... I remeber one time at the gym I was doing some rows and couldn't help but stare at this womens butt who was wearing all spandex... She wasn't hot, but not bad looking, but I was looking because I had never seen an ass jiggle whenever there was leg movement. She didn't even look too overweight either, it was really strange, I dunno who she was kidding. And the noises, oh man the noises... god I love them so entertaining. Now everyone knows the last one or two reps are gonna be difficult so if you exhale loudly or make a grunt no biggy, it's expected but then you have this self absorbed egotistical bastards that just swing the weights in a piss poor style yelling and grunting like there the only god damn person there. It's always with the bicep curl with a barbell. They put on some kind of ridiculously high weight and use much more back muscle than bicep. It use to impress me, at first I thought these people had like gone beyond that last rep where you're shaking like crazy and you got nothing left, then you realize it's all crap. |

"Leggo that Ego" :dumbbell:
Sorry ... couldn't resist. I think of it like this. If I'm trying to impress someone so much that I would risk my health I would be looking closer at my character values. I feel the same about road rage ... won't get involved, ignore, just let 'em be idiots. Why would I get my car scratched, or worse ... not worth it, and all that time-consuming paperwork, insurance stuff, etc. even if nobody got injured! Just not worth it to me. It helps me to remember that ignorance is curable but stupidity is forever. I guess it's about whether or not it's really that important when you look at the big picture (and oh, those consequences). Choices, choices ... -------------- ~ Apneac ~ When I die, I want to go peacefully like my grandfather did--in his sleep...not screaming like the passengers in his car. |

I always laugh when I see the guys doing the butterfly machine and they grunt really loud and slam the two arms together.

yeah my mate joe swings the weights that i lift just to keep up cos he thinks, for some reason he MUST 'keep up with me'. im not too bothered about that sort of thing, although i did lift 300 for 8 reps on the leg press, but no-one was watching, so i guess i was showing off to myself... does this count as my ego doin the lifting.-------------- driving to eat a carvel cake |

well I believe in cheating to an extent.....somtimes i'll load the bar up with 115......and curl it for 5 reps.....using a lil bump for the last one or 2....-------------- " The only true eye, is your minds eye"- plato |
