I've recently started an 8 week program created by this site. After a week & a half, it's very apparent that my left arm/shoulder is noticably weaker than my right. What's the best way to build up my left side to balance out my body? Should I use weights that are comfortable for my left side even though my right side can do the weight easily or should I use weights that are more approprate for my right side while my left side is struggling to handle the weight?

Thanks

do a lot of dumbbell work, and use weights that your left side can complete the sets with. if you use weights that are comfortable for your right but not your left there's a good chance you could hurt yourself and then you'd really be worse off. you never want to sacrifice form for a heavier weight, so always work with an amount that you can handle safely:)

success comes before work only in the dictionary. that's right.

Hey there, I've been told to always start your sets off with the weakest side, and never outdo it on the stronger side. ie, if you can only make 6 reps on your left than only do 6 reps on the right, otherwise your weaker side will never catch up, I think most people have this problem when starting out, it just may take some time before the weaker side catches up. Hope this helps.
I have the same problem, I can bicep curl 22kgs on my right no problem, but my left only 18kgs, so I use the 18kgs, and will only increase the weight when my left will allow me, it is frustrating at times though.

There is a very simple way. What you do is do sets for each arm individually while you do your set place the other arm behind your back. Make sure you use the same wieght and do the same amount of reps for both. I used to have the same problem and now both my arms are in good shape. It should work for you.

This is what i tried and it helped.........say your doing bicep curls..........do 2 srts of hevy weight on concentration curl on your right side( to pre fatigue it)......now go do you barbell curls.......the right arm well be weaker......compared more so to the left arm, so th eleft arm will have to pick up the slack, and do more work.......
But honestly its more mental, think abotu your left side more, liek on curls and truceps extension, visualize it, keep the form good, imagining it getting bigger. Really really concentrate on the left side, make it catch up!
