Hi all,I have been observing this for more than a month. Every time I do some leg exercise I become breathless and feel nausea. This does not happen if I do any upper body exercise. I am able to push myself to the limit when doing the upper body exercise but if I do even one leg exercise like 4 sets of squats, I feel nausea. Is it because I am week or that I am not getting enough nutrition? -Saji Mathew |

Interesting. I do not know the cause. I know that I feel similarly when i do heavy leg presses and squats. This is always the case, has been for years when going heavy on legs. Maybe it is the release of testosterone? I focus on my breathing a great deal and that seems to help. I have not felt nausea, just mental exhaustion and light headedness. I usually have to sit for a few minutes to pull it together again. Is your breathing controlled? How long are your breaks between sets? Well see what the masters have to say. -------------- Ischjli "Seven days without exercise makes one weak." |

Just a guess without seeing you but my guess is Ischjli hit it right. I've seen people do heavy leg work and they don't breath out till the end of the move. You get your best pump with heavy leg work but if you don't breath right, you're blood gets oxygen depleted. |

After a hard day of working legs I will feel sick for a few minutes but it will pass, and doesnt happen all the time. The leg muscles are large and take a lot of blood for that pump. I think like Mike said its all about your breathing technique.-------------- BQ AMERICAN MADE |

After a hard day of leg work I cant walk the next 2 days for some reason. Well anyway this happens when I work my back I try EVERYTHING such as some sort of painkillers, breathing excersises and anything, but I seriously think something is wrong with my back. |

When I do some of my big sets with 40-50 reps of squats or lunges I often choose the guided Smith machine to help me. Why? Because I get sooooo dizzy after around 20 repetitions so I'm happy to be able to lean myself against the barbell without falling.......Saji, try to do a search, you'll find other posts about this. -------------- - Nina :o) La vie est toujours aussi belle..... |

Smith machine ROCKS! You can pile on the weight and it guides your form! Shocker if your back hurts you need RICE therapy, look it up here at ft. I iced my back when it was hurting and it made a huge difference. Also pay attention to your form while lifting, dont put any more stress on your back then you have to (like arching.....). This has worked for me!-------------- BQ AMERICAN MADE |

saji_mathewI HAD THE same exact problem bro... First of all i have a quetsion for u ... do u smoke ? or have u been a smoker? if u have thats one of the biggest cause of it... 2nd thing is that make sure u eat alot of calories one the squat day, like lots... then wait for 2 hours for ur food to go down(this is very important or u'll have no energy) make sure u drink alot of water before u go. another imporatnt think is the proper warming up ... make sure u are warm enough before starting to do squats.. dont start heavy get the pump going then do heavy... proper form is the most important one as well.. After u did all this... there is really not much u can do... JUST Shut up and SQUAT.. Dont stop if u think u are in pain ... JUST DO IT!!! thats why squat is called the KING OF BODY BUILDING it kills... and if u feel u gona pass out after 4 sets its ok thats what its suppose to do... ( i do 6 sets) CHEERS ::seanyboy:: PS. LEARN FROM ARNOLD MY HERO " ... I have no fear of fainting. I do squats until I fall over and pass out. So what? It's not going to kill me. I wake up five minutes later and I'm OK. A lot of other athletes are afraid of this. So they don't pass out. They don't go on." - Arnold Schwarzenegger! but plz dont die and blame me... lol |

Could be blood sugar level related. Ever hear some people when they haven't eaten in a while complain of feeling sick at their stomach? Same principle. Are you eating before your workout? Or going on a completely empty stomach. If you are going on an empty stomach, try eating about 30 min before. You could be working out to the point that your blood sugar bottoms out. Something to keep in mind. ;o) -------------- pg *The prettygentleone isn't so gentle anymore! ^v^ --The second you quit, then it's official - you're a failure. |

prettygentle IF he eat 30 min before he will be pucking while squating... in my opinion the best time for eating is 2-1 hour before ... personally 2 hours is the best.... pre workout food must include 30g protien and LOTS of carbs... |

Well yes and no Sean. You're right about eating two hours before but including lots of carb or not is a very discussed subject. Some nutritionists say that you have to eat some slow burning carbs (with proteins) two-three hours before (and then very often a fast high sugar snack just before the work out).Other say that this pre workout meal should only include fat and protein since all carbs -simple or not, will cause an insulin spike and therefore will make you rather tired for the work out. They say that you should eat your carbs in the six hours AFTER the training. Hmmmm I guess everybody is different and we just have to find the best thing who works for us.... -------------- - Nina :o) La vie est toujours aussi belle..... |

Hi Everyone,I just wanted to say that I love working my legs but it is also my hardest workout. I also find dissiness and shortness of breath when doing lunges and squats. I know how important it is to carb up before these exercises and also to drink plenty of water...and breath, breath, breath! BUT, I still get dizzy and sometimes even sick to my stomach. I was thinking that having all that weight on my lats and pressure on my spine basically might be a contributing factor. Also it is a serious cardiovasular workout. The last thing I want to do is passout though...I could really get hurt. Amy |

Do you work your back at all? That should help to stregthen your upper body. Also make sure that you are using good form. I don't normally feel too much pressure on my lats or spine when I work legs.-------------- Lisa |

Amy, try doing squats in a Smith machine where you'll stay guided. So if you feel bad then you can just fix the barbell fast so you'll not risking to hurt yourself.Maybe you are taking too heavy as well. -------------- - Nina :o) La vie est toujours aussi belle..... |

i LOVE/HATE LEGS!!! IT TAKES A LOT OUT OF YOU. IF EATING BEFORE HELPS OUT GREAT. PERSONALLY I FIND MY WORKOUTS ARE BETTER IF I DO NOT EAT. I USUALLY GO IN THE MORNING AS WELL. BUT AS TO THE DIZZYNESS, IT SEEMS TO ME THAT IT EITHER MIGHT BE AS SOME HAVE SAID LOW BLOODSUGAR. HOW EVER IF YOU AS MOST DO WITH LEGS WEAR A BELT, IT MAY BE A BLOOD PRESSURE PROBLEM..BELTS WHILE HELPING THE BACK HAVE BEEN FOUND TO RAISE THE BLOOD PRESSURE. WITH SQUATS YOU ARE INCREASING THE PRESSURE OF THE BELT BY BENDING OVER. YOU MIGHT WANT TO SEE A DOC TO MAKE SURE NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THAT. OTHER WISE BREATH A LOT AND DRINK A LOT OF WATER WHILE DOING IT. |
