Question: I am kind of a beginner at weight lifing and looked into a leg press machine (to do leg presses and Hack squats). Almost every book that I read on the subject statedt that a lot of knee injuries have taken place with these machines and if it has not happenened now, it will in the future. What is your opinion? Thanks. Farran

Hi Farran and welcome.
Have somebody near to show you how to use the machine and you'll be okey. Good luck!

I have been using a leg press for better than 20 yrs., have never had an injury problem. On the other hand, squats if done incorrectly can result in big time problems. You will be fine on the leg press.

Just make sure if you are going heavy not to get too low into your range of motion, and if you start feeling discomfort, don't go any lower. Leg presses are a very great excercise though.

Never had any problems with the leg press machine either. When I go heavy I always wrap my knees with prof powerlifting knee wraps and they always give me the extra support.

What if you don't have a leg press machine???????? And for the alternatives, could someone explain what calf curls are, and alternatives for people who are using this program but don't have a machine. All I've got is a bike, and a treadmill, which I hate to use, the bike is all right though, it's one where the handles move back and forth while you're moving your legs.

leg pressing i sfine just don;t let ur ego get ahead of u and try to do to much weight, get a full range of motion when u do it, same with hack squates and regular squates, people who get injured are usually doing somthig stupid work within ur self

IF you have any previous knee problems, I would suggest using knee wraps.
