I know its a strange question. However, I have heard and been reading the best way to perform legs and calves days is to use sandals and or barefoot rather than a cross trainer or running shoe? I hear it prevents the full extension of being able to get truly on the tip toes?
Anyone hear of this or practice this method? Thanks

Yo GQ Man,
Yes, I've heard that going shoe-less gives you more range of motion for calf raises. Some gyms frown on that, though. I found a good compromise is to wear wrestling shoes. They're very comfortable, they give you a much better range of motion than traditional cross trainers or runnig shoes, and the gym owners don't give you the "eye" for going barefoot! Buy them over the web (closeouts, sales, etc.) and you can get some great deals, too.

i have been hitting calfs "barefoot" for over a year now and i have seen the best calf progress i have had in a long time. I also used to suffer from cramps in the feet/calfs during exercise however this has not been a problem since the barefoot technique.

Out of curiosity, would just wearing socks be a good compromise and still get the benefit of better extension etc. Might keep the gym personnel a little happier as well.

I usually use some flat shoes (right now I use some Addias Smaba soccer like shoes) and those seem to give me a pretty good extension on seated/staning calf raises. I might try with just my socks at the current gym i'm at. I know the gym at school though doesn't allow you do to that so I probably be at a loss there for the shoeless technique...
