I'm just curious here, not looking for exact answers, but I started working out Monday... I'm working out 4 times following the FT.com program, I'm focusing on my chest, biceps, shoulders, back, triceps, calves and rest of legs. I'm also on the 12 week ab program.
Every day I workout I bike after my training for about 15 minutes.
Now... I weigh 184 lbs, I'm 6'1 and I have a bit of a gut, and not a ton of muscle on my chest, and some alright muscle on my arms, but nothing too defined right now.
How long (very roughly, estimate) will it take for my abs to start shaping up and my arms/chest to start shaping up?
I'm hoping to have a better look by summer, I know everyone is different, but I have a pretty regular body. Oh, also I'm dieting very well, cutting back on carbs and fat a LOT compared to what I used to, and I'm increasing my protein intake by quite a bit. Thanks!

Well, it is hard to predict exactly when you will begin to see results, as everyone responds deifferently to training. That all depends on how serious you are, and how clean your diet is. Don't worry about how quickly you will see results, instead, make lifting a part of life and enjoy it. Everything will start to fall into place soon enough. Good luck.

As you pointed out yourself “everyone is different,” but for me it took about 3 - 4 weeks before I started seeing results on my chest and arms. As for the abs, I’m still working on that one. I can feel a difference, but not yet see it. I still have a spare tire around my waist, which has been reducing nicely since I joined freetrainers.com.
Getting your diet just right is an important factor in any training program; just try to follow the ft Nutrition Program as closely as possible so you can see maximum results. Unlike a lot of people you have actually set a realistic goal and it is by no means impossible for you to shape up by summer as long as you keep with the program.

i dont really follow the ft program because it seems like too many calories for reduction of weight. cut your calories and make sure you eat 6 meals a day to improve your metabolism. as far as the gut can't spot reduce so this is the hardest area to get right. if your arms chest and everything else gets bigger or more defined your whole body looks good. as far as cutting calories i mean by like 300-500 calories, drinking plenty of water will prevent you from starving. once the gut has gone adjust your dietary needs according to your next goal - maintenance or getting bigger. if you really need results you can SUPPLEMENT, the key word, with some sort of diet pill. try the induction phase of atkins first, this helps get rid of some water weight and starts to burn fat. aerobics the first thing in the morning (20 minutes at your target range). keep sodium intake low along with your diet, so there wont be as much water retention.

While cutting sodium is important for individuals with hypertension or other health problems, a hard working fitness enthusiast needs a certain amount of sodium for muscle contractions and other metabolic processes. Any excess sodium is excrete through sweat, urine and even feces(that's great). Just do not add extra salt to meals and don't worry about the rest, keep water intake high regardless.
