Hi, I'm new here, of course, and wondering if I'm on the right track. Now, before I go any farther, I have to say I think I filled out my profile...LOL. I'm 35 and I've never worked out in my life. I weigh about 158 and I'm 5'8". I'm doing cardio every day....4 miles a day. 2 in the morning, 2 in the evening, at about 4 mph. I also am doing weight training (on a home machine) about 2 days a week. I've tried to follow the exercise plan, but there doesn't seem to be a catagory for the kind of machine I have. My question is, I've been doing this for about 1 month, and I'm platuing. I went from 34 waist to a 32 waist, but just wondering why the weights not coming off? I'm not expecting miracles, 2 pounds a week would be fine. Do I just have to work through this? Is it common? I'm sure my body is saying "what the ...." LOL. Any tips for me? My goal is 140 by this summer, does anyone think that is achievable, or am I looking to loss to much? I do understand that the scale isn't always the best indicator, so, I'm taking measurements too. Also, weighing myself on a body fat scale. So far I've come down 4 points. Anyone have any suggestions! ?

Thanks!

Two pounds a week is realistic... you have to keep an eye on your diet... eat right and it'll help the most.

As for the plateau, change up the program a bit... different order, different times of day, different intensity or weight... just throw your body a curve. It gets used to what you are doing and if it knows you are gonna run in the morning on Monday, it'll adjust...

Variety is the key!

Thanks Tim...

I'm going to try mixing it up a bit, and I'm going to change my diet. I've been on the Atkins for the last 1 month and 1/2, and I'm afraid to change diets, but I guess it's time for a change. I know there is a ton of controversy with that diet. I'll go and take a look at what the program says again and start from there.

I used Atkins with some success for a period of time but I don't think it's recommended for long term.. there's a post on it from Tim on the Specific Diets forum titled Carbs Good/Bad/Common sense that was very interesting.

Consider what you want your longterm goals to be; for a healthy lifestyle you'll need to change that diet, why wait??

I think the key to the whole health and fitness thing is this: It's a LIFEestyle change. Sure, you can drop 10 pounds in a week... good on ya, but how are ya gonna feel? Is it healthy? Will it all come back? Probably... this isn't something you can do for a month and then stop and hope your body stays like that forever. It just ain't gonna happen.

This changes from today (or the day you start) till the day you die...
